Oh, the color white. I got that in mind for my art design and story writing project. Except I got a white design color from... probably the AW Comedians Wiki.

Hey, those colour palettes are pretty good.

Although I think the building palettes need a bit more contrast, the light and dark tones of each colour kind of wash into each other a bit. The unit sprites look good though. The purple large unit sprite might need a touch more contrast too.

especially these parts :
Spoiler: show
4 – Where can I download a Gameboy Advance Emulator from?

A - Well there is one very popular GBA Emulator that’s runs almost every single GBA rom. It’s called VisualBoyAdvance and is the one I used to run most of the GBA roms on my computer. The second best GBA Emulator is BoycottAdvancewhich runs just as well as VBA but may not run all of the GBA roms.

Visual Boy Advance - Download Here

BoycottAdvance - Download Here

5 – How do you apply IPS Patches to GBA roms?

A - Download one of the following IPS Patches:

Windows - Lunar IPS

Mac - IPS Patcher

The first step is to open the IPS Patching program. Tell it to apply a patch. It will ask you for a rom and an IPS Patch file to use. The program will then apply the patch, permanently modifying the rom. For more details, check this topic.

All my maps shenanigans seem to be going pretty well. There's a few wrinkles to iron out (mostly to do with map tiles and those scrollbars), but it works really well. Current map count: ~380 maps total :P

All the AW2 inventions work properly with the exception of the Factory. I've got a few ideas on how to handle it though. AWDS' Crystals and whatnot don't, however.

I'm sure everyone knows this, but the animation for soldiers capturing Com Towers looked like soldiers capturing ordinary cities. It's not worth complaining, but does anyone wonder if that's how it was meant to be portrayed?

You mean in AWDS? Unintended but default behaviour. Don't remember if AWDS actually has sprites for it for all my digging in the filesystem.

But I did make a video:

It was an older hack I did which shows the damage range:

How did you do that ? Did you replace on of the existing terrains, like the "Ocean" tile ?

Sorta, it was a multi-step process. I didn't replace that tile, because it's still used as an underlay for the BH inventions that are more than one tile large. Here's what I had to do (that I remember!) to get it to work.

Have Done:
•Combined the Four Minicannon Terrains (Terrain ID 0x15,0x16,0x17,0x18) into a single Terrain type (ID 0x15) which changed the Minicannon rotation depending on tile ID.
•Updated the tile ID blocks to act as a different terrain type (which 8x8 tiles are plugged into one 16x16 tile)
•Updated what tile ID acts as what terrain type.
•Removed Terrain ID 0x16 from the Black Hole Inventions list, so it no longer spawns a minicannon.
•Added a new entry to the list that determines what individual tile IDs change to when a property is captured that correspond to the tile IDs of the AWDS maps.
•Expanded out the capturable properties table to support Terrains > 0x14 (Laboratory) to allow it to check for captures on that tile. (Works for both humans and AI!)
•Expanded out the capture value setting table so that the remaining capture would appear properly in the little overlay box.
•Replaced the Laboratory property image with a Tower one.
•Replaced the Underlay's Name with the Tower name and assigned it.
•Updated the HQ Sprite replacement code to load a Lab instead if that army has one, then set the Lab to render using the HQ sprite slot.
•Updated the movement charts, fuel use charts etc. for the new terrain.
•Updated the Terrain Entry table to give it a new description and terrain star value, then copied over the city's background sprite pointers.
•Edited the R-Info Page rules to allow you to view both the movement charts and the terrain description, rather than just the description for the inventions.
•Wrote code that counts how many towers a player has and adds it as a damage bonus (pretty trivial with all my other code in place, still needed to be done) + Javier shenanigans.

Need to Do:
•Add it to the tiles that count as properties in terms of capture X properties mode totals.
•Add it to the income properties (although AWDS towers don't give income, AWDoR ones do)
•Add a Tower count to the GUI map selection (like in AWDS)
•Update Minimap Tile allocations to not make it look like a BH Invention on the minimap.
•See if there's a large Tower Sprite in AWDS that's used for capturing (the game just uses a default one, but I don't know if there's one in the files)

So yeah, it was a pretty mammoth effort, but anything else I want to add should be easier outside of the limited Object Tile RAM for capturable properties - standard terrain is gonna be no issue.

Quite a clever way to save space. So now we have 3 free slots for new terrain, cool !

Though, what about the minicanon ? it only has one position now ?

Nah, all four directions work, they just rely on the tile ID rather than the terrain ID (AWDS does it this way too and it is what gave me the idea.) As is, none of the previous maps break under this.

Ah yeah, understood.

Wondering why they didn't do that in the first place, they were probabably hungry to fill all the 32 bits of terrain IDs.

I guess I can understand having different BGM for your videos. But what's fascinating is getting to pick the army color and if none is picked, it's a Black Hole color. That's really neat.

Honestly, the most fascinating part about it is that it is all default behaviour outside of the actual toggle I coded - Any map that defaults to Black Hole as a player won't display an emblem (mostly the Campaign). All I had to do was to code the toggle!

So it turns out that AWDoR has an in-engine auto-tiler that automatically generates the correct edges, shadows, connections and pretty bits for the maps.

Image Image

This causes some issues when trying to use the maps in AW2, but it has certainly solved my mystery of why some maps look ridiculously ugly when backported, even when most of the tiles match up between games (some maps used the autotiling in AWDoR, some did not so they look okay!)
