Thought I'd start it up, for hacking. Show what you're working on off, or just comment on other people's work.

Here's just a few small screenshots of stuff I'm working on.

ImageImage

What's this? Individualised CO Buildlists?

Image
Hey wait, you're not supposed to be allowed to deploy from there!

ImageImage
Wait, WHAT?

(It's a damn shame the AI won't obey!)

Show-off.

Impressive nonetheless. But you know you want to find a way to add materials to the units. Or at the very least let more than just the APC go around supplying things. ;)

*GASP* Units from the HQ?! You MUST tell us how you did that! If I knew how to do that I could turn Advance Wars into Famicom Wars, or make a turn-based version of Battalion Wars. (In Battalion Wars Riflemen are built from the HQ and there's a building called "Barracks" that build Infantry and "Factories" build tanks)

Wait...how is it that Nell has 963 G? That's an awkward number...

My latest production: a map editor that automatically makes the stuff that goes in an XML file. No longer will anyone have to type it all out themselves or copy it from a save file and modify it to work in the XML.

Well, I won't, at least.

Screenshot:

It's fulla bugs though. And sea is going to be a pain to put in there...hope you guys don't plan on making navy maps with this for a few days.

EDIT: And it's not finished completely yet.

^Thank you.

I just finished testing it, so it should work OK.

Download Link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?lybjxbjmxjt

This is only version 0.8, so there's no Sea or Shoals. And pipes are a bit buggy. Left-click places terrain, right-click pulls up the menu.

Enjoy.

EDIT: Agh. Right after releasing it I found another bug. I re-uploaded the program - the new link's above.

Good work so far, but your rivers are a little off.

I've ripped the terrain from ID numbers 0x0000 to 0x017F:

The tiles are arranged by ID number in horizontal order.

Oooh, this looks great.

I'll download it and check it out.

(Also as an interesting aside, if you line terrain up by increasing ID in a 30x20 map you get a nice pattern from memory)

Finally edited the last 2 16 Bit CO Image that appears where the Information about the terrain and units are (top screen). Turns out there located in the same place as the menu select CO images. >_<

Now to edit the three CO Wall Papers. I know where they are located and how to edit the images. Locating the 256 Palettes is the problem as AWDS seems to have stored all the palettes the game uses in the arm9.bin file (I'll need to double check that).

The irritating thing is, the person who was modifying the CO image in Wall Paper modified a bit too much as you can see below:
Image Image
What I plan to do is use the Japanese wall papers, modify the text information and use the Japanese palettes (once I locate them).

I may do this for the EU version and Japanese version (inserting the US images instead :)) if I feel like it.

Nope. During Nell's Power, it's playing the "Orange Star" theme, not the "Orange Star Theme" theme.

I've started to make an "Advance Wars 2 - Map Header Editor" using Visual Basic 6.0:

Image

I'm still learning how to use VB6 so I haven't added any code let but I have just finish putting the interface together as the screenshot above shows.

I might add the option to change the type of Campaign intro used on Campaign maps and an option to include a 'Day Limit' (how many days to play a map) which only works on Camping maps. I'll worry about the coding part first and I need to figure out how to get the tool to open the file.

Finally got round to inserting the Gameboy Wars Advance 2 COs into Advance Wars 2. I had most of the hacking information on my computer for almost a year now.

Image Image
That Blue Moon intro picture took me a long time to display correctly. Had to locate the Tile Layout data, and the data being compressed didn't make things easier to find.

Image Image
All Intelligent System did to Sonja's palettes was swap set 1 and 4 around in Advance Wars 2. In the original, she wears glasses.

Image Image
Olaf only got a palette change in Advance Wars 2 for set 1 & 5, since in GBWA, he had a white beard and in AW1, it got changed to brown (it's obvious why :P).

Image Image
Here is Grit with his Cowboy hat. It is quiet a large hat.

Now I just need to replace some Gallery pictures. Once I modified the GBWA 1 & 2 save to unlock all the stuff in GBWA 2 that is.

There weren't specifically any topics on them here, but Custom Wars used AWDS as a base back in the day so a lot of ideas can be drawn from there (I can help, if you'd like).

Seeing as it's possible to do individualized build lists, surely, it's possible to also make it works so that certain COs can get some units on the cheap or otherwise, for example, one that cannot get missiles, but gan get 10-20% off fighters, maybe...

However I need some time to ask Xen a few things first. Mostly regarding the assembly side of things. So I can start doing stuff too. As I have some stuff I need changed and it's all gotta be done in assembly :P
