Turn Advantage Countering

Post by DieselPheonix » Sat May 09, 2009 2:18 pm

1) When making a map wherein two players control two armies each, is it necessary to give player 2 FTA counter infantry when the sides are 1 and 4 vs. 2 and 3? The map is symmetrical.

2) For 1 vs. 1 maps, with or without FTA counters, would double battles make the results more accurate? This means the map is played twice with each player on one side. A secondary question then is: should the COs remain on their side? i.e. Xen uses Olaf as player 1, DTaeKim uses Hawke as player 2; DTK uses Olaf as player 1, Xen uses Hawke as player 2. Or player? Or no restriction?

1. I don't think so.

2. I don't know.

Generally going 1 + 4 vs 2 + 3 is sufficient unless the map balance is really loaded with FTA anyhow.

As for your other question, I have NFI.

Err... second question should be 1 vs. 1 not 1 vs. 2.

I don't think limiting CO choice in the second scenario makes much sense. CO choice is part of strategy. It would be like forcing the players to use each others' openings. It doesn't make sense. Or consider it this way: FTA countering is about balancing the map, and the map only. CO's have nothing to do with it.

ignore fta if this is for a non-awbw game, just give a token inf per two bases. no one will be good enough at your game for it to matter.
