Any general tips for Survival?

Post by Airrider » Mon Aug 13, 2007 6:37 am

I've cleared Turn Survival but that's about it. When I try to take on the last missions in Time and Money Survival, I just peter out for some reason or another. Anybody got any general tips for each Survival to dispense?

On Time Survival, try not to use powers until the last map; they take time during the animation.

The last map can be done quite easily with a tag, especially if one of your COs is Kanbei or Sami. Drop off and begin the HQ capture on the same turn. More generally, though, any tag is a big help with clearing the way to the HQ.

Money Survival, there's really not much I can say generally. I hate the last map there, I can't get 150 points on it reliably. What I find easiest is to save up money on the earlier maps and buy a bunch of Megatanks, a rocket, and a recon.

OK, now I have a new problem.

I find that when I play Money Survival, I have trouble not spending too much on Cold Shoulder. My team is Hachi and Javier (who helps me make such ridiculous, insane money-grubbing feats as winning by HQ capture on Chokepoint) and Cold Shoulder, despite having Hachi and his CO powers...yeah.

Any tips on how to scrimp there?

And Crowded Plain gives me trouble...I keep failing to pin Rachel down!

If you have Hachi, start the map with him in the lead and a tag charged.

Use the tag first turn. Build recons from the two cities in the middle. Then switch and move the recons over Nell's bases. End turn.

Nell builds one infantry from her remaining base. Destroy it on the second turn.

You can also use this strategy with a movement-boosting CO; they have to take the second turn in the tag. Build recons from the outer bases first turn, tag, switch and move them onto Nell's outer bases.

There's also a "full power" strategy. First turn, build the recons. On the second turn, use a tag. Your lead CO needs to be able to wipe out the outer infantry in one hit. Then switch and destroy the third infantry with the recons.

Aside from those methods, the best I was able to do was one rocket and three recons. I forget exactly what I did, but basically, the rocket is five squares away from Nell's north base at the start of Turn 3. You use a tag, use the rocket on both turns to destroy the neotank, and use the recons to destroy the infantry. I think I had to mess around with the recons a bit to manage the latter, though.

Essentially, make sure you've got a tag or you're screwed.
Only in math can you buy 600 cantaloupes and not look like a nutter.

Hmm, that's a pretty good Strat, I'll have to make sure to do that. Don't know why I picked Colin & Sami, to be honest.

Colin's one of the COs who can follow the "destroy the two outer infantry in one hit" strategy on Cold Shoulder. Well, unless you blew all your money on the first three maps.

We can't forget Colin's SCOP, either. *Stares at the big numbers on the screen*. Power of Money is perfect on the Money Survival. As for a big no-no of a CO, avoid Kanbei. Maybe it's just me, but his units are way to expensive for my tastes. Now please dun hurt me, lol.

Except Kanbei's defense is the best in the game. It's worth the price.

Actually, Power of Money is precisely what I was refering to in that post.

And as to Kanbei - aside from the excellent day-to-day defense boost, there's the insane boosts from Samurai Spirit. On almost every map I've done with Kanbei where his prices were a major issue, Samurai Spirit more than made up for that.

I can see that, but in Money Survival, he's more of a problem than a solution. Dang. I wish I had my computer fixed. I have to use my Wii to type these messages.

Well, presumably you're doing it with two COs. It's not that hard to arrange your turns so that Kanbei's partner does all the buying.

It *is* possible to get an overall S-Rank on Money Survival with solo Kanbei, no skills, though. I've done it, and even got 150 on all the individual maps, though I barely had enough funds for the S-Rank.

Just to let you know, the WR was done using Hachi & Kanbei for just measly 9990 G... You give Kanbei the defense bonus & Hachi the money skills...

Before playing this mode I also though Kanbei wasn't going to be useful, but I didn't knew that you could play using 2 COs :P... As Dragon Fogel mentioned, you buy with the partner & defend with Kanbei.
