WWN's Topic of delicious eats

Post by x0_000 » Sat Jul 27, 2013 11:47 am

Post about eats you're cooking :D

I made some poutine for dinner today, fries slathered with stir fried beef + carrots in soy sauce, then topped off with Oka cheese (so goooooood) and diced tomatoes, finishing with a white gravy. GOOD crumpets

EDIT: SMALLER AND MORE DETAILED PICS!
Image
Let's start off cooking those fries and the beef/carrots aww yeah
Image
Image
Cut open that juicy tomato
Image
One half diced, the other half sliced :D
Image
Meanwhile the meat's coming along nicely. I added a dash of soy sauce
Image
The fries are done!
Image
Image
Let's get that cheese. This is some delicious Oka cheese. It's pretty awesome. Diced into cubes, of course.
Image
Everything's topped off... but we're missing something.
Image
Oh right, I forgot the tomatoes! But wait, we're also missing something quintessential...
Image
Image
aw hellz yeah sweet sweet gravy.
Image
That's some gooooood eats.

That looks so unhealthy, but so delicious. I might have to make some poutine soon.

What a great idea for a topic, my dear. I'll try to post some pics of what I'm cooking should I make something inspired in the coming days.

Poutine report: I started doing a few variations, like using chicken for the meat. I also have this new mushroom gravy, which is less thick than the previous one and more soup-like, which sadly doesn't look as good on the poutine. I also got green onions which work excellently to top things off and tonight I have beef strips cooked in korean BBQ sauce. GOOD EATS!

I've learned quite a bit from my roommate this summer, mostly about stir-frying, and taught a bit too, mostly about different uses for chicken breasts.

I might take some of this knowledge and make dinner for my family during the couple of weeks I have at home before going back to uni. If I do, I'll post some results that may or may not be accompanied by pics.

If you somehow get your family to eat homemde poutine, then yes.

You must take pics.

In the meantime, I bought a Salmon and Shrimp Pot Pie from the grocery store and it is cooking as I type!!!

EDIT: This pie is awesome. One day I'll make a pie from scratch. >:D

pies from scratch are fun and actually super easy.

I had a bunch of apples to get rid of a while ago and was so damn pleased with myself when I was able to turn them into pies, no recipe or nuthin.

I am a good fudge cook. I only ever cook for friends, never at home unless I'm alone, though. I shall have someone documenting my righteous friend-feeding sometime.

Makin' lasagna. It's actually my second time cooking it and it was pretty straightforward last time. Oddly enough I am pretty neutral on the lasagna from this italian fast food place in the mall next to my university, but the stuff I made last time was pretty ballin'. Maybe it's because I use tons of filling.

I was loving this topic until the toastse. Boke.

I've recently really got into using my Slow Cooker, throw in a bunch of ingredients and just leave it for 8 hours. Stuff like brisket comes out beautifully - it just falls apart. I tried to do a half decent barbaque sauce but it came out sorta weird. The meat itself was delicious, but the sauce was just weird. Anyone got good BBQ sauce / slow cooker recipes?

In news of NOT-DELICIOUS eats. I've discovered that Heinz Beanz Onigiri is not a combination to try again.

I make bentos now:

Cherries, Fried Chicken, Home-made kimchi, Rice.

Brother's b-day today, made a dobos torte. In retrospect, I should've chosen a less time-consuming cake but ANYWAY

Image
Whipped up egg-whites, on the left, lemon-flavored spackle on the right. There's like a pound of powdered sugar in that thing. (And before anyone goes "hurr durr fat 'muricans", it's a Hungarian cake.) Combine the two and you get a light, foamy batter that becomes ...

Image
Sponge cake! In thin, thin layers.

Image
Freezer brick. Didn't want to make the whole thing at once (layers alone + cleanup took me about 3 hours), so I froze the cake layers for later assembly.

Image
Hells yeah silky smooth chocolate buttercream.

Image
Derpy caramel wheel. I didn't make enough caramel the first time to cover the layer, and I wasn't able to cover the whole round before the stuff cooled, so I made a second batch and poured it over the first one. Looks kinda messy, but eh.

Image
Assembled! Caramel wedges are propped up with hazelnuts.

Image
Sweet, sweet layers.

Image
This thing'll keep and stay moist for a while. Looks pretty, too.

Cakes are fun. I make a kickass tiramisu, too, although that's not quite as flashy. Also planning a fancy cake for Christmas, so maybe I'll post that when that comes around.

Image
Getting everything set up with the steamer.

this got me through college

though you seemed to have left out the part where you cover the egg so it doesn't become a watery mess.
