If things continue the way they currently are, I'm going to wake up to Donald Trump as my president. I'm honestly not sure I want to live in this world anymore.

To be fair, that's because Australian referendums apply to changing the constitution, and require a vastly higher threshold of success (absolute majority in two-thirds of the six states and an absolute majority amongst the total population) than the British joke of an opinion poll (simple plurality in a voluntary-voting system).
