It may say a lot I barely remember how the movies went ten years after seeing them. Some key points, but not how the linked. The amount of planetary travel complicates matters quite a bit.

The Hateful Eight was a fun three hour conversation. Comical violence and Samuel L Jackson was great.

Here's the best summation of Attack of the Clones:

Someone secretly purchased an army of clones for the Republic to use, and Obi Wan is trying to figure out, um, who did that? Around the time he's figuring it out, it's too late, and the Republic is forced to use the army that was mysteriously purchased for them despite obvious moral quandaries because the trade federation has escalated disputes into an all-out galactic civil war with the federation led by a traitorous Jedi that we did not meet until now, Count Dooku.

While this happens, the anti-war Senator Amidala has a threat on her life and a young Jedi Anakin Skywalker escorts her to Naboo to ensure her safety. They fall in love, he senses a disturbance on Tatooine, he finds his mother dead, and he murders and entire village of sand people. She thinks this is pretty much fine, and they get married.

It's even worse than Phantom Menace.
A New Hope meanders and drags along in places, but you'd have to be some kind of an ADHD for it to be a too slow movie for you to enjoy. It's still the only Star Wars that truly and completely works as a self-contained standalone. It's actually kind of ridiculous how well the story holds up without the other movies - whatever plot holes and continuity errors there are, are only introduced by the later movies, particularly the prequels, messing up things.
I don't say this often, but Narts is right on here. Like, totally right on. It's just a fudge perfect film and it's amazing how self-contained it is, bonkers medals scene and all.

One of my friends called it like a year ago, that Leo DiCaprio will finally get an Oscar for this movie. Now we wait.

Well if you want to see Leonardo DiCaprio roll around in the snow for 2.5 hours while nothing of interest happens with ridiculously pretentious direction then yeah sure I'd recommend it.

I did not like it at all. It had like four different storylines, none of which actually ended. Also Channing Tatum had like three minutes of screentime. And Scarlett Johansson had like five.

Deadpool is very, very good. I absolutely loathed the previous films in the current official Marvel universe, but this was great. Maybe it's because it's aimed at a more mature audience who need more than CGI explosions to be entertained. It's so refreshing to have a "superhero" who isn't lawful good.

i got a new appreciation for the lighter "lawful good" super heroes after binge-reading the 1970s-1980s x-men comics (well, i didn't read all the x-force and new mutants issues, but that's because marvel online was awful and wants me to become a pirate or something, i read as many of them as i could tho lol)

it was a great experience, but damn it got dark- not so much individual issues, but the large-scale plot progression. the x-men of that era were heroes, but they just weren't all that good at it for various reasons. They usually scored minor, pyrrhic victories at best, and took some huge losses. Quite a few members of the x-men made something of a career out of failing horribly at their goals (not necessarily taking down the bad guy- I'm talking personal goals here, too). And don't get me started on the Havok/Dazzler/Psylocke team, lol.

anyway long story short (and it is quite a long story) i realized that those issues of captain america and similar have their place- when you just want to read about a guy who actually, maybe, just every once in a while, actually succeeds at being a hero.

As far as the other marvel movies go, I haven't seen enough of them to have a real strong opinion, but they all seem pretty fun, not amazing but not bad. I do enjoy Jessica Jones though, and I'll probably go see Deadpool now that I know it's out, since I still have some christmas money and excess free time.

Speaking of Deadpool, how gory is it? I mean, it got comfortably lumped into the R18+ classification here, which means that it's uh, "adult". But does it go far on the gore, or is it mostly just "violence" and sexual content?

I ask because we're probably going to go see it, but I really can't do gore.

It probably got R18 because of a couple of sex scenes, including BDSM. There is gore, but it's not over the top.

I could go on a bit of a rant here about how sex in movies and games is seen as worse than violence, but that's for another topic.

I finally got around to watching Iron Man I and more or less like it(it indeed could have used MORE EXPLOSIONS). I at least like Iron Man as a superhero better then captain America or Superman. If I really want something subtle, I don't look for it in superhero movies.

I went and saw DeadPoopL. The theater was so full I had to sit in the front row. So I only "saw" it in the figurative sense. I'm going again so I can get a better seat and not have to rely on my ears.
