Straight up Birdemic, but we were all collectively riffing it. My dorm has a huge screening room where we project movies onto a huge wall, and we made a big event out of it. The theater near here showed the live Rifftrax version not that long ago, but I missed it because of marching band practice.

V for Vendetta (fun but I'm amazed that people are still making such a big deal out of it).

It's the comic they're making a deal about.

At least I hope it's the comic.

Yeah, Skyfall was fantastic. Probably the best Bond, and definitely better than the already great Casino Royale.

So I saw Finding Nemo last night for the first time since it came out. From a technical standpoint, absolutely amazing. Stunning, even. Too bad the plot had absolutely no flow (ha) at all.

Indeed! I have been busy, but that hasn't stopped me from stalking this board.

It's just that when I don't have anything to say, I don't say anything. It probably doesn't help that when I do have something to say, it's a reaction of disagreement to something and I'm not always keen on sharing that.

I saw Wreck-It Ralph. That movie met and surpassed all my expectations (that being it's a movie that references video games). Definitely getting the DVD/whatever once I hear about it.

Frozen was an absolute delight. I love it. Pacing isn't quite as good as Tangled, but thematically it was much superior. I adored how they played with Disney tropes and it surpassed my expectations in many ways.

This isn't a movie, but I'm watching Veronica Mars (which I did hear of because a movie to cap the series off just came out). I'm still on the first season, but by god it's good. It's teenybopper high school relationship drama mixed in with detective work and adorable narration a la film noir. It's delicious.

I'll probably end up marathoning it and stay up super late and end up groggy and grumpy at work tomorrow.

I'm well into season three of Veronica Mars, and it's been consistently great.

Still, I feel let down by the show's portrait of feminism. The writers and Kristen Bell work to make Veronica a strong but flawed protagonist who isn't defined by her femininity even as she embraces it. Then, college feminism comes with its nose rings, female Celtic literature, mannish personalities, and vicious misandry. Like, c'mon writer fools. That isn't what feminism is, and you're wasting time scripting a straw man.

Other than that, the show's been great. Season two had excellent twists, and Mac is an endearing, down-to-earth mirror to Veronica.

Couple of movies I've seen recently, with arbitrary numbers!:

Pacific Rim: Freaking awesome. Very predictable, but it was so fun. The characters could have used some filling out, and I wish they hadn't shoehorned the romance. 8/10

How To Train Your Dragon 2: Good, but the first one was a much better package. 6/10

Live. Die. Repeat/Edge of Tomorrow/All You Need is Kill: Really good, surprisingly. I actually think this was one of the best summer blockbusters. Really funny, the action is spectacular, and the story is rather interesting. More smart than I anticipated. Super fun ride. Heavily recommended. 9/10

X-men: Days of Future Past: Pretty okay for a superhero film. I'm not the biggest fan of X-men, or even most Marvel movies outside of Iron Man 1 (DC fo' lyfe) but I enjoyed it. 6/10

The Other Woman: fudge awful. 2/10

Confessions of a Shopaholic: It's alright as chic flicks goes. 5/10

The Devil Wears Prada: I actually really enjoyed this. Meryl Streep is amazing and still a total babe. 6/10

Eagle Eye: Okay thriller. 5/10

Like Father, Like Son: Japanese Drama. I really liked it. It's really touching and emotional, and though I may not understand Japanese culture as much as I would like, I think this was a good window in. The acting is very good, even from the small children, though the fathers steal the show. 8/10

Okuribito (Departures): Another Japanese Drama. I had watched this before, but rewatched it with my girlfriend. It's still really amazing. The scenes are beautiful and the atmosphere spectacular. An excellent movie that triumphs is every part a movie desires to. It's shot with a certain sincerity that's not meant to be high-brow, and ends up being very successful in conveying its heart-warming message. 9/10

Midnight in Paris: Woody Allen as amusing as always: 8/10

About Time: Good romantic-comedy. Probably one of the better ones, actually. Some funny moments, some nice serious ones. Nothing spectacular, but I wasn't expecting one. 6/10

Captain America: Winter Soldier: Predictable, boring, messy. More of a miss than a hit. The first one was at least pulpy goodness and embraced it. This one was just cliche'd and uninspired, further adding to my already apathetic view on the Marvel Universe. 4/10

Snowpiercer: Amazing, visually and thematically. Don't watch a trailer. Don't read about it. Just watch it. It helped my gf disliked it, so there was lots of good discussion between us and some friends, and it definitely deserves some. Heavily recommended 10/10
