Song contest 4: Instinct/Mystic/Valor

Post by HPD » Fri Aug 05, 2016 6:27 pm

Moving right along, it's probably extremely clear to you where I got the theme from this time. Basically, choose a song that fits one of these three themes (only if you like doing so!). Please mention to which theme you think your song of choice applies to.

Have fun!

I tried explaining a few of the later events in the books to a friend. His confusion made reading summaries worth it.

it doesn't have to be anything specific, just a song you you associate with one of these words. if it's a feeling or something else that fits that's all good

pk just pm me an entry or i can't count it

This is almost new-topic worthy but not quite so I'm putting it here. Yesterday I ended up in an audio equipment shop and was asked if we wanted to hear an £80,000 system. I have never heard music sound quite so good. Rage Against the Machine are now unlistenable on conventional speakers. I didn't realise I was an audiophile.

Sorry guys, I was busy and out of the country last weekend so didn't have time to do this.

There isn't going to be any three-theme-combat because people either submitted instinct or none at all. So we're all just going to vote with our instincts, I guess :)

Here's the playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... zKpK8IcwuK

FEATURING
Seu Jorge - O Astronauta de Mármore (Starman)
Paul Kelly & The Messengers - Don't Start Me Talking
Lewis Del Mar - Malt Liquor
Cage The Elephant - Trouble
Quantic- Not So Blue
Ernest Guiraud/Bizet - L'Arlésienne Suite No. 2 (Farandole)
Korn - Rotting In Vain
Amplifier - The Emperor
Orchestral Pokémon - Lugia's Song (Original) - Volume 1
Lemon Demon - Reaganomics
Juno Reactor - Pistolero
Frank Klepacki - Act on Instinct

12 total, please number them in the order of most liked to least liked

1. Juno Reactor - Pistolero
-posting actually good music in these is cheating you know, asshole
2. Frank Klepacki - Act on Instinct
-It's not no. 1 only because I tried to stick to the theme
3. Lemon Demon - Reaganomics
-I subvert the irony of this song by liking it unironically
4. Lewis Del Mar - Malt Liquor
-I don't even remember what this song sounded like when I placed it to the list. Needless to say everything below this point is even more forgettable
5.Cage The Elephant - Trouble
-See the above
6.Ernest Guiraud/Bizet - L'Arlésienne Suite No. 2 (Farandole)
-Holy crumpets we have 12 songs this time?
7.Amplifier - The Emperor
-Do we even have that many members?
8.Paul Kelly & The Messengers - Don't Start Me Talking
9.Seu Jorge - O Astronauta de Mármore (Starman)
-a decent cover, I guess
10.Orchestral Pokémon - Lugia's Song (Original) - Volume 1
-This is what video game music sounds like when you don't hire someone like Klepacki
11.Korn - Rotting In Vain
-Another band I've tried to avoid hearing since like forever, but this time it's as crap as I predicted
12.Quantic- Not So Blue
-The video was funny I guess

Overall not bad and probably the best so far but, wow, you guys are so boring. Enjoy your 4-6/10 ratings.

1. Frank Klepacki - Act on Instinct
I am disappointed that you used the W95 re-release version of this absolutely classic piece of videogame music, but the fact that you submitted Act on fudge Instinct in the first place is enough. So many memories attached to this. 10/10
2. Korn - Rotting In Vain
The best song Korn have put out since their heyday. I cannot wait to see them for the fifth time on the next tour and probably get hospitalised. The bass. Oh the bass. Marry me. Honourary best song. 9.5/10
3. Seu Jorge - O Astronauta de Mármore (Starman)
Pretty sure this is an acoustic cover of something I've heard before. Oh, wait, it's Starman by Bowie. Pretty cool. It's a very nostalgic song for me and the different language gives it a great new twist. 8/10
4. Ernest Guiraud/Bizet - L'Arlésienne Suite No. 2 (Farandole)
Welcome to my study playlist. 8/10
5. Quantic- Not So Blue
Up until this point the playlist was getting progressively worse, which made formatting the list easy. This song upset that. There's something about that slightly funky beat. 7/10
6. Amplifier - The Emperor
This was fun I suppose, if a little drab. The vocals are bit zzz and the length is unjustified but the guitars in this song should be the talking point here. 6.5/10
7. Juno Reactor - Pistolero
Yeah it's good I guess? 6/10
8. Paul Kelly & The Messengers - Don't Start Me Talking
Ehh, it's not terrible or anything but it is definitely boring. 5/10
9. Lewis Del Mar - Malt Liquor
Dull as fudge until 3 minutes in with the breakdown that somewhat redeems it. 4/10
10. Orchestral Pokémon - Lugia's Song (Original) - Volume 1
I have no nostalgic attachment to the original track so all I'm hearing is generic happy music. Also too obvious given the theme. 4/10
11. Cage The Elephant - Trouble
CTE are one of those standard normie bands that people in Nirvana t-shirts with no real opinion on music listen to. This song is no exception. There is nothing else to say here other than that I felt like I should expect radio advertisements at the end of the song, before I remembered it was YouTube. It sort of transcends good/bad into the category of "blah whatever." 5/10 (not a typo)
12. Lemon Demon - Reaganomics
Turned off after 40 seconds, total trash and not funny. And I just had a joint - I should be laughing at everything that takes the form of humour. 1/10
