Don't diss classic rock. Classic rock is the mother of all DECENT modern music.

I'm certainly not a fan of it but I do like the odd bit of it - but the stuff we get is "Greatest gee-tar anthems EVA!!11!1 Volume 37" type crap, which has about 4 good songs of about 30, with bands like Status Quo and Queen, which I can't stand tbh.

And I fail to see how it's the "mother" of decent modern music as well?

Most of the music I like (IE, decent music! :P) stems from Classic Rock.

Also, Queen is fantastic! "We will, we will rock you! Sing it! We will, we will rock you! Yeah!"

The only Classic so-called "Rock" I hate is Elvis Presley. If that's rock I'm Jimmy Hendrix.

Say what you want about their hype and music, but there's no denying they are Rock.

And I can't see how you can say Elvis is not rock. Seriously. He pretty much defined what was Rock in the first place.

*disagrees*

There was lots of metal goodness going on in the 80's. Metallica still was an underground band and recorded their best albums during that time. Maiden's top albums also originated in that period. Judas Priest rose to fame. Helloween helped spread metal across continental Europe. Ozzy Osbourne wasn't senile (yet). Death and black metal were born as subgenres, as well as speed/thrash metal, providing the genre with the variety that defines it today. Etc, etc, etc...

While metal may not be your kind of music, my point is that you'll always find something worthwhile within a certain period of time if you manage to look beyond the crap that covers it.

Remove Queen from the list and it be better.

The Beatles are in no way rock - they're guitar pop.

Word of warning - having a guitar does not make you rock.

Not that Queen is bad, not at all. Queen rocks. But it came after Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who... Can you really call it the founder of Rock n' Roll?
