I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to post, but i guess it is.

Commander Wars is a small AW-Clone for PC using vb.net and DirectX 9.
The Game is located here:

Before telling me the game doesn't work make sure, you have installed:
- Microsoft Network 3.5 or newer
- You run Windows
- You've got the newest Version of DirectX 9

For all CW-Programmers and Spriters:
:miss: We used a couple of Sprites of Custom Wars, but the Sourcecode is a complete new one.

A short Overview
- Map-Editor with the possibility to import *.aws (Editor by Roma_Emu) and *.aw4 (Editor by St Johnston) maps
- We have currently three AI's
- We've got all old CO's and some complete new CO's and a lot CO's from Custom Wars.
- Play all Black Hole Inventions created by Lash
- Play in different Terrainstyles
- AW, AW2, AWDS, AWDC and CoW games can be played
- Battleanimations (not all units)
- Moving Tileset like in AW-Games for Rivers,Sea, Reefs...
- Random CO selection from lists you can edit
- Multilanguage (For the moment only English and German)(because of a lack of Translaters)
- 3D-Beta-Engine
- 3D-Engine for 2D Representing allows Zooming
- Create your own banlists for the game. (Three slots)
- Create your own campaign for CoW (Diologues with Music, Picture or Video) and with a couple of Script-Effects
- Create your own Tile-Set for CoW (Three slots)
- Create your own Custom Units for CoW
- Create your own Custom CO's for CoW

You're right their.
Always wanted to do it and forget it again (while loosing myself in a mass of code).
Hope you can forgive me this fault.

And some Updates:

Removed Bugs:

- Defending Units couldn't move if taken 0% Damage by an attack, normally only happens with Luck CO's.
- some minor translation problems and other bugs in the script-writer has been fixed.

New stuff:

-You can now create Fog of War on some places of the Map through the Script for some players or All. You can also remove Fog of War on some parts of the map if the whole map is played in Fog of War.

- You can now change the CO-Style of a CO (still a lack of the Sprites here)

- You're no able to use an ingame CO as a base of your Custom CO so if you're not quite sure how something work take a look at them.

- You're now able to disable the Random Volcan-Function and create some fixed Targets (for several days) for this Volcan again you need to write a script for this. You can also delete all current targets to change the current set maybe after unhidding some parts of the map.

- And i guess i've done someother stuff but can't remember it.

Some Updates for the Mapeditor:

You can now turn a Map (180° or -180)

Sadly there're still some bugs and problems inside. :(

When Debugging is the way to remove bugs than programming must be the way to insert them.

And thanks you make some advertisment around there,
though i doubt they just want to talk but don't want to change something.

And a tiny update:
I've got around to add the Change Player Stuff in the Mapeditor...

By the way i'm writting a small Manuell on how to use Commander Wars (with some Pictures so you know what i'm talking about),
but i still need somebody reading it again (removing some mistakes i did), before i publish it.
And maybe adding some stuff he\she finds useful to know, but i was to lazzy to add.

Okay! It's update time didn't have much time for stuff like that.

Though i have some new stuff:

Removed Bugs:
-Again a couple of wrong incorrect or missing Translations have been fixed.
-The AI-Transport-System has been updated fixed wrong calculations and make it work again.

New Stuff
Some nice to have Stuff:
-The Game can Auto End a Turn if you're only decission would be to end a turn. So if you can't move a unit, produce one and you're unable to use a Power or switch your CO.
-You can force the Game to show the Windows Cursor during playing Commander Wars.

Nice Additions:
-You can now play in a deterministatic Mode or simply Luck during a Battle is turned off. All CO's do an extra Damage which lays in the middle of Luck and Curse. The Value shown before a battle is the excact damage you'll going to do.

-We now have tooltips which'll pop if you don't move you're cursor for something around half a second.
Quite helpful for new Stuff which you may place during working in the Editor.
I'm going to add Tooltips for all Units, Terrains and Buildings.
I hope i get around to complete them in some days.
Unfinished Tooltips only show the Name of the Object.

-And King Greyfield(Kohaku sama) does some sprite ripping so we got some updates for the CO-Sheets for you as well.

Well i wanted to post that earlier, but didn't have the time to do so.

Fixed Bugs
-Sturm and Sonja COP\SCOP resulted in a critical bug when used in 2D\3D-Mode
-The World to Screen Function didn't worked at all points of the Code so using the Mousewheel didn't select the next Unit. -> Used a Backup of the Current View and Projection to fix it.
-CO's with incorrect translation or wrong CO-Descriptions have been fixed.
-Medium AI got a divide through Zero Error when used on Maps with Launched Rocket Silos
-Some Dropdownmenus didn't work.

Updates
-Loose Sentences for all CO's (except AWDC) have been added.
-All AWDS CO's+Sturm have now an alternate CO-Sheet to select. (Thanks to Kohaku Sama(King Greyfield))

-Big Buildings like the Death Ray now have a specific Point to be attacked like in Advance Wars. (i think i add an option for the old CoW-Version as well)
Currently they can be attacked everywhere, but they have more Livepoints
-The Talon Gun of AWDC has been added (no Sprite yet coming soon)

So that's all stuff that have been finished until today.
I'm doing some Tests so that i can upload the newest Version this Weekend (including the current Sourcecode).

If you have some bugs you've founded and which weren't fixed now please tell me about them, so i can remove them.

Note: If you've got older Maps or Custom Campaign Stuff you need to move those files from the folder Karten to Maps and from Landkarte to Overworld.

If fixed some final bugs and added some small Updates.

You can now create your own preset rules and save them so you don't need to change everything befor a new game.

The Stars of a full COP or SCOP-Bar now move nice in a curve.

And some other stuff.

Okay i created a new Version where i hopefully fixed all bugs reported.

New Stuff:
-CO-Powers can be turned off
-Rule-Menu looks a little bit more organized now.
-Added two new Script-Effets
-One allows you turn off the CO-Bar for one Player or turn it on (Saves the current charge position)
-And the other allows you to change the current CO of Player to a Clone-CO
This CO is basically one Ingame CO with the difference of having "..." as Powerquotes and at some other description points
And another CO-Sheet so you could have two Sturms on a map one in the old and one in the Alternate CO-Style.

-And i'm nearly finished with the Network-Menu so you can actually play Network-Games.
(Last missing bug is the sending of the Constructionlists (sometimes this throws errors but not everytime you try to start a game)
-So don't changing them would allow you to play a Networkgame...
-Finishing a Session is buggy as well... (so you would need the Taskmanager here)

-I hope i can fix those bugs next weekend as well as adding a chat and continuing saved network games.
-Maybe also allowing you to play maps with ini or script files later on.

I fixed several bugs concerning the CCO-Section of the Script-Writer.

I replaced all Ä,Ö,Ü,ß with Ae, Oe,Ue... so more Windows-Systems can use CoW.

I wrote a translate Mapname-Script for all CoW-Maps i only wait for the Translation-File done by Bon Volt from AWN.

For all guys using CoW and created some maps by there own.
After changing the Ä,Ö,Ü,ß to Ae...
The old Maps aren't compatible with the new Version (only on my Harddisc).
This doesn't mean that your maps are lost!
Just open them with the Editor and use Export Map under Map-Support.
Collect all your maps in a single folder.
You need to export every single map by hand. Sry.

Importing all Maps can be done by a single code-line written into the console of the game.
So that's much easier.

Sorry for this problem but the Binary-Formatter produced some problems after changing Ä,Ö,Ü and ß.

As i was a little bit busy i don't have more updates for you.

Updates:
Score Calculation has been improved:
Time: Now gives less points for defeated players depending on how long they survived.
Power: Destroying Units gives slightly more points in the end.
Technique: You need to take a look at how much Units you destroy compared to how much units you lost.
+how much Units you lost compared to how much Units you deployed.
+how much Units you build compared to how much Units are allowed.
Getting 0 in one of the 3 Calculations gives you 0 Technique.
The max Value for the Technique-Calculation is something arounf 190.
You can get 0% up to 130% in each calculation they're multiplied by them self and with 100.

-Fixed the seemingly wrong Emotion in Battles (it looked like that because of to great Values which changed the CO-Face.)

-Added Alternate CO-Styles for all AWDS-CO's + Sturm (hey never seen such a great Sturm. We've got the original AW1 Sturm here.)
Really great work from Kohaku Sama(King Greyfield) here. We all say thanks and hope he provides as with more Sprites for a real AW-PC-Clone.

-I fixed and added some other stuff these days but can't remember them.

Last Updates for this weekend:

-Sanjuro's COP gives him an insant amount of money each time one of his units is damaged actually 100 times higher than it should be. (Fixed)
-A new old Army has been implemented Bolt Guard gets it own Army-Banner as well as it own Army Color, but the Army-Style remains that of Black Hole.
-Game stooped during Transporter moves (the chance for this is something around 1/10000) but still possible. (Fixed) (Reported by dreamsepilogue)
-Network-Games can now be established and played
-Missing Parts
-Continue Save Game
-Terminating a Session doesn't work correctly. (I need to make some researches how to kill the Network Peer of DirectX9 correctly.
If somebody knows how to do so please tell me)
-Maps with Inis can't be played over Network yet, maybe later needs some extra code here.
-No full Chat-Room yet, but that's a small think as we're able to send all moves and stuff like that.
-Instead of the correct Playername in the AI-Section or Human-Player the Game tells you the AI would be Passiv.
(That's due to the fact how the game sends and recieves Ingame-Actions. As we tell other PC's which action should be done, which are done by an AI that
only works with those orders. The same AI is used for Records)
-The Faces during Battleanimations no work correctly.
-In the CCO-Section all CO-Effects in the left menu where in German now they're translated.
-Three new Massdamage-Effects for CCO have been added only Sea, Air or Ground Units can be selected as a Target.
-CO's with Random-Effects didn't work correctly in Records (and Network-Games). (Fixed)
Effected CO's are Sturm, Rachel, Eric, Julia, Artemis, LeChiffre, Levenworth, Adam and Carmen if i remember it correctly.

I think that's all. I hope i get around to finish the Missing-Parts of the Network-Section next weekend.

Well, it's time for some new Stuff.

Update:
-Higher or Lower Counter-Attacks like that of Sonja,Julia didn't work. (Fixed)
-Luck wasn't calculated during a Counter-Attack.
-Key-Menu added so you can change the Ingame-Keys. (Note: Some Keys in the Editor are Hardcoded)
-You can add Loaded Units to Transporter in the Editor.
So what about a Naval-Invasion at the Beginning of a Campaign Map?
-Instead of CO-Sheets for every single design. I and Kohaku Sama(King Greyfield) decided to create Color-Table which change the CO-Sheets
They need less Space and are easier to edit.
The next Version'll come out when i have those Tables, as uploading a new Version with all CO-Sheets would need 4 or more hours and i'm not in the Mood to
wait that long.
The Sheets have a full size of 10MB which isn't much, but i've got a very slow Internet-Connection.
-Several AI-Bugs have been fixed.
-Some strange bugs inside the Musicengine have been fixed as well.
-Some CO's got an improved CO-Design.

I hope i get some time to work on the Network-Games again.

Well, for those few guys still taking a look here around from time to time:

Some more Stuff has been done:

-Varlots COP didn't reduce the Capture-Points of Buildings though you got the Money for that. (Fixed)
-Metall Army, Dark Matter and the Darc Conflict Army got an improved Army-Symbol

And a nice future i think:
As Commander Wars isn't a poor small Advance Wars Clone.
We put in some new stuff.
An Advance Wars 2 and Advance Wars Darc Conflict Hybrid-System:

What's that and how does it work?

You can build a CO-Unit

COP-Charging depends on Money destroyed.
Attacker or Defender get the same amount charged.

Inside the CO-Zone is 1.5 as fast as in the Gamemode.
Outisde the CO-Zone only 0.75 as fast as in the Gamemode.

1/4 COP-Charge increases the CO-Zone by 1
3/4 COP-Charge increases the CO-Zone by 2

CO's have COP and SCOP.

Loosing the CO-Unit doesn't clear your CO-Bar.

CO-Boost inside the CO-Zone is 100%
CO-Boost outside the CO-Zone is 50%
(can change this value very easy but i want to know how it works this way.)
This means Kanbeis Unit are 110% outside the CO-Zone and 120% inside it.
For example.

Some Boost like Hidden HP always apply.

This CO-System-Mode can be used while playing with Advance Wars 2 States and Units or with Advance Wars, Darc Conflict Units and CO-Boost.
So have fun with it when the new release comes out!

What's in it?
-More Bugs of course as i like them.
-Highly improved Script-Writer
-Should be playable on chinese or Russion etc. Windows PC now.
-Network support (TCP\IP Use Hamachi) (uses System.Net.Sockets)(Server-Client Based)
(No-Lobby, No-Chat, no Auto Quit of Connection when the Host or a Client leaves a Session(Press Esc for this))
-Colortables for all CO's that can be easily edited (no limitation to number or Colors that can be changed)
-And maybe some hidden secrest i forget

Have fun find bugs and report them.

I had a bug occur in the second level of the AW2 campaign (I was just quickly playing it for amusement).

Sami failed to capture a city with a full health infantry in 2 days (The city was reduced to having 4 capture left)

Add 4 Points?
Maybe i ruined something here with the Hybrid AW 2\AW DC Mode.
But than the whole capture thing wouldn't work.
I'll check that when having access to the code again.

This is a small unhappy note:
My Keyboard of my Laptop seems to have a Keystuck Error so booting the PC is impossible. :(
I don't have Access to the whole project in the moment hope that Dell can solve this issue quite soon.
As the hard drive is unaffected by this.
I don't have lost the data.

Sorry for that.
You can still report bugs. I put them on a list on another PC.
So the project is not under development for a longer time. :angry:

After a longer break.
I restarted my work on Commander Wars.

The first new or better improved think is he Victory Screen:
-It will be shown immediatly
-Resizing the Window now works correct in this screen.
-You can turn on or off the lines of the Players you want to see.

Bugs:
Capturing Bonuses like that of Sami didn't work correctly in the current Version (Reported by Xenexis). Fixed

No you need one Computer!
Just change the AI to Human for the other Players in the CO-Selection-Screen. Like on a Gameboy! :)
And well the Teams are somewhere in the left part of the Player-Stuff-Section.

Okay I have once again tried once again to make it work, as I suspected that it didn't work because of that the rules that I choose were not alowed.
And I was right, so I tried for over an hour to make the rules as close as possible to the rules I want(the same as in (AWBW)... I managed to start it once(I don't know how) but in the end I didn't get at all witch rules that were compatible with witch and it was very very frustrating. Please tell me witch rules should I choose to make it as close as possible to AWBW?

I managed to start it once(I don't know how) but in the end I didn't get at all witch rules that were compatible with witch and it was very very frustrating. Please tell me witch rules should I choose to make it as close as possible to AWBW?
Well, all Rule Setups are allowed so if they didn't work! -> It's a Bug.
I didn't found out that any Rule is incompatible with another!
But i don't know which are the Standard AWBW-Rules.
So you may Setup the Rules press the Save-Button in the Lower-Middle of the Screen.
Then open this Folder:
Resources\!Custom\Rules
Open the Rule it's a simple Text-File and post the Text here so i can fix this bug.

If you get an Error-Log by the JIT-Debugger post it here as well.
So i can fix it.

Also this game looks very promising, because there are just so many options to customize the game with.

ip but can play random people online) then Advance Wars will have a much better chance to grow larger as a competitional game.

I tested your Gamerules:
So that's what i found out:
There's a small Error in reading the Gamemode out of the rgl-file. (Fixed)
Advance Wars DS and Advance Wars DoR\DC automatically create Fog of War independent of the Rule Setup. I forget to write that this should only happen during Rain. (Fixed)

However i was able to start a Game with your Rules with no problem!

So i need some further Information:
When do you get stuck with your Rule-Setup!
Does the Game-Freeze or are you just unable to press a Button or Switch to the CO-Selection-Screen or when trying to launch the Game?

As for the Online-Support:
Well, i doing nearly nothing for CoW in the next three weeks as i'm writing several tests!
But the first lines for a Lobby and for Chat exist, so this will come someday.
Though i have no Server so somebody needs to Setup this, but the Game will over the possibility to easily Setup a Server and you only need to Enter the IP of this Server once to see all Games and Player there! :)

Well the play button is simply gone, that's all. And a few times a error message has appeared in the final stage when you set up a game.
It would be awesome to be able to play online like that :D

One thing about advance wars though:
I don't think it should be treated as a video-game. When you think about it you realize that it is no different from a board game and could be played as such if you make all the necessary pieces(only "luck" might need a program to be calculated correctly).

When you are playing board games like Go or Chess online, there is always a time limit for how long the players can think before they do their move or lose. This is of course because of that players don't have all the time in the world to play one game. It could take a very long time if you play a random person online without a time limit(if you are unlucky). Is there a possibility to put that in the game?

I see good potential in advance wars as an competitional board-game (played on computers normaly of course) because it has things that other board-games don't and I think it is deep enough. One big problem is though that there has not been any way to play competetively other than AWBW witch people easily lose interest in because of it's ridiculusy slow gameplay, I mean come on you get an e-mail when it is your turn to move.
Just wanted you to know :)

The next time you get an Error-Message please post it! So i can fix those bugs!
The Play-Button should only disappear if not all Player have a selected CO.
One thing about advance wars though:

You can turn off Luck in Commander Wars.

Well the play button does not appear even when all CO:s have been selected... so anyway can you give me a download link to the fixed version of the game later?

Sorry for my late response. I'm don't have much time in the moment!

Well, maybe next week!

I've added a Counttowntimer for Mutli-and Singleplayer-Mode!
Which Ends the current player turn when reaching 0 Seconds!
-The Timer stops during: Battleanimations, Capturing-Animations.
It also stops during Walking-Animations (i'm still unsure here) but for the moment.
The Turn Time can be selected between 1 Second and 999 Hours or
of course and as usual you can turn this rule off!

-What's missing is a nice Background-Graphic for the timer and a synchronization during Network-Games!

I also tried to manage to fix a problem that happens on several PC's since Version 9 or so!
And i'm quite sure i was able to fix it now!
Still needs a test here! :(

I like that you choose to end that persons turn when the time reaches zero instead of that he simply lose. this is awesome!
There are some turns though witch requires more time than others, so one could argue for that there should be a main time witch goes over to the turn based time when it ends. So for example when you have used 30 min total on all your moves you have only 1 minute per move. Still I think this will work out just fine :D

I am only interested in playing against humans though, so I will test that when I get someone to play against :)

Well, you underestimate the possibilities of the CoW-Code. :D

I've written the possibility to switch between Single-Countdown (one time countsdown) reaching Zero means you loose.
or Multicontdown or Round Countdown which starts every turn by the Maximumtime you set in the Gamerules, this only ends your turn when reaching Zero.

So it's always up to the Host how the timer is used!

Though i need to test synchronization of the timers during Networkgames! :)

I must say though that to find this game by searching on Google, is not easy if you don't know the name.
I have searched many times on different occasions after different advance wars games witch you can play online against other humans on,
yet it feels like I was just lucky to finally find this.
I think that this game has been getting much less attention than it could have because of this.
It would be awesome if you could fix a good online play so that people finally can ditch AWBW.

Well, i don't make much advertisment!
And i know that it's impossible to find Commander Wars or even Custom Wars by searching for "Advance Wars for PC" or something like that.

I think that this game has been getting much less attention than it could have because of this.
It would be awesome if you could fix a good online play so that people finally can ditch AWBW.
After i finished my work on the last project!
I get back to the Chat-Class and the Lobby-Class again!
As connections are done by IPv6 for Online or Ipv4 used in Local-Networks CoW should support online play soon.
Though i'm more the guy whose playing against an AI.

I try to finish a new Version in the next two weeks.

Updates:
-Fixed a visual Bug when switching between Commander Wars 2 Terrain-Sytle and all others
-FIxed a Bug that made it impossible to hear Animation Sounds of Explosions etc. (Note: not all Animations have currently a Sound)

-Lobby now uses IPv6 and shows all open Games (still somebody needs to start a CoW-Game that Functions as Server, all Clients need to have the IPv6 of this Server)
-You can start a Local IP-Game(Network Game with IPv4) or a Internet-Game using (IPv6)

-Stuff done by me and Kohaku Sama (King Greyfield) Beta-Versions
-The Talon Gun now has the AWDC-Picture
-The Talon Gun has a Fire-Animation including Sound
-Destroying the Talon Gun creates the destroyed Talon Gun (impassable Terrain)

Well, the new Version is uploaded now.

I hope i didn't oversee any bugs, but i tried test everything especially the Multiplayer-Part.
But i don't give a quaranty for this.

New Stuff:

-All other Stuff

-Hopefully fixed a Bug that only happens on some PC that made impossible to play CoW.

I tested it a little bit and started a game, and I found 2 bugs
1: when I pressed the button show co info at the co selection screen the game showed an error message and crashed
2: I can't load my saved rule settings

Other than that it seem to be working just fine :)
I'm gonna try playing online later when I have the time.

CO-Info did only work during Singleplayer-Selection. Fixed that.

Can you post the Error-Log as well as the text of the Rule when you try to load your Rule-Settings.
I don't get a bug so i need to some more Info.

I'm surprised the Game even crashes as i wrote some try and catch around those functions as you never know what a User enters or if the Computer exists.

Normally you need either a Game shown in the Lobby, when you know somebody running one.
Select it and press connect.
Or a Window should Pop-Up where you can Enter the Computername or IPv4 only for Localgames or you can enter the IPv6 to connect to the game.
