DEMOCRACY

Post by Alecat » Tue Aug 25, 2015 3:06 pm

Hey guys!
So a friend of ours is moving to the UK. He owns a lot of ties.
Image

Only 6 of those ties will be going to the UK with him. Here is a blog post about it.

I kind of hated his google voting form so I spent a few days throwing together an equally terrible ballot form of my own. And you should all vote, because ties.

I suppose you would need some measure to untie them.

I am UNILATERALLY declaring an ANARCHY party! no ties! no need for tie-breakers!

here's our policy:
1. ties are like little nooses and are a liability during meals and fight scenes!
2. that's it! we keep things simple here, no grandstanding about IDEALS or JUSTICE or any of that!

also I can't figure out how to use the poll!

Your browser may suck. The poll was optimised for Firefox but should also work in Chrome, Safari and IE. Mobile will also be derp.

Choose how you will vote. EITHER: vote ranking your parties by preference (above the line) or rank each tie (below the line)
To vote for a candidate, simply click on it. The text boxes will fill up as you click on candidates.

Nothing fancy. Mostly just work suits, ordinary black uh things (I am not really very qualified to speak of men's fashion, or any fashion for that matter). If it's relevant to your decision-making he's also somewhat tall and lanky.

Keep in mind that he'll need to survive on these for work largely.

Ballot will close in approx 18 hours.

Apparently it will not work with whatever version of IE I'm being forced to use at work here, so here's my voteset:
1: CON
2: DEM
3: DOT
4: PAI
5: LIB
6: UNC
7: DAD
8: CAR
9: CHR
Basically, just don't bring Dad, Cartoons, or Christmas ties. Unless he plans on being the guy who wears funny clothes but management can't really get on him because it's technically business attire, any of the others will work just fine.

LIB, CON, and DEM are probably the most flexible without going into ensemble specifics.
Black pants and shoes with or without jacket could use DAD, DOT, and PAI.
CHR, UNC, and CAR can probably be reshuffled into a colorful bloc.

The ties shall have a sitting period of 3 years, as that is when the colony is expected to return to the mainland.

I still don't understand why he can't just take all of the ties. They don't take up very much space in a suitcase at all, unless he was so strapped for space that this was just one of the easier things to strip down.

I have seen the box of ties, and while not massive it definitely takes up a non-trivial amount of space.

When you have to cut things off at an arbitrary number, you have to pick an arbitrary number. Six seems reasonable, and allows for the purchase of new ties on arrival in the New Lands.

Other things take priority over ties, and even beloved board games have been given the strip-down treatment.

I FIND THESE RESULTS UNFAVORABLE AND WILL NOW COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM VEHEMENTLY EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T VOTE WHICH IS LIKE THE MOST MINIMAL THING YOU CAN DO IN A POLITICAL SYSTEM!

alternate ending: fashion the ties into a flag to claim territory in the new lands!

I doubt that compulsory voting really affected that outcome, either - unless you're talking about candidates who gained a lot through disengagement or ignorance like Palmer and Leyonhjelm, in which case I very much agree.

I guess it does heavily encourage everyone to pay attention to what's going on in elections, since most people would think along the lines of "If I have to vote, I'm gonna vote for the right guy."

if you're going to be a democracy and pretend it's useful making voting mandatory only makes sense
