There is no formal contingency for absent players probably because it's a tabletop system and players are very much assumed to be present and not just suddenly disappear in the middle of a fight.

But I can let you collectively control him until the end of this chapter, when I can make him "disappear" like Vasil in case Sven still wants to play later.

===Summer===

Summer fires a controlled burst at the grapplers and hopes she hits the correct one. She feels as if time slows to a crawl, seeing every rotation of each bullet as they fly through the air.

Summer: 2/3/0, healthy, 1-5
Bittman: 2/4/3, WRESTLING, 5-10
Teddy: 3/3/2, stable, 1, 2, 7, 8, 10
Valerie: 2/2/3, healthy, 3, 4, 6-10

Crossfire provides +2 shoot! (stunt!)
Seeing a fellow soldier in trouble fills Summer with determination! (roll enhance!)

===BITTMAN===

Bittman, unable to quickly cut through his adversary, engages Scarface with words. "Hmm! You bear the mark of a warrior!" He grunts, probably due to grappling and not affirmation. "Let us see if you are worthy of it!"

=============

ACTIONS
Bittman attempts to break out of the grapple and swiftly strike down his foe! (roll 10 + fight 1)
Bittman also intends to use the grenade against the group of infantry in the zone!

Bittman unknowingly positions himself so that Summer's attack hits his body armor, if at all! (stunt!)

That's quite a lot of fate points kiwi.

I'm going to reject the "seeing a fellow soldier in trouble" one because I'm not sure what it's supposed to do or what aspect it's related to.

I'm also rejecting the one used by Bittman because he doesn't have a stunt like that. (Although I suppose I could let you invent a new one because he's still missing a full repertoire)

The rest of them are fine.

The slow motion bullets find their target and the camera zooms in, following as Scarface's BRAIN MATTER EXPLODES in slow motion. The grenade is dropped from the dead man's grasp, and the now freed Bittman notices the pin has been removed!

The grenade will EXPLODE in approximately one round.

Wooden fragments are flying around from the frames of the window Summer is sniping from, as the soldier in the powered armour is going RATATAT at her.

Summer loses 1 HP

Baggett pulls out his walkie-talkie. "Comms. Give me a status report."

A distorted voice answers. "Link to HQ is stable. All systems nominal. Over."

Baggett gives one raised, quizzical eyebrow at the robot who is already walking towards the mast. His attention, is however, needed elsewhere.

Teddy has convinced Baggett to let him take a look at the comms mast.

Baggett sends out two of his men to get the machine gun instead.

Teddy opens a maintenance box at the side of the mast and takes a look inside.

All wires seem to be plugged into their correct sockets. There is, however, another set of cables that are disconnected. Teddy uses his robotic powers of reasoning to deduce that this second set of wires probably leads to the radio room in the bunker.

You can switch the cables to enable Valerie to use the antennae, but this might not go unnoticed by whoever is currently using the connection.

The Lad assaults the unsuspecting guard.

The man slumps to the ground, seemingly lifeless from the multiple knife wounds Lad has given him. Lad grabs the fuel canisters in mid air, before they make too much of a noise hitting the ground.

He's just about to slink away from the scene of the perfect crime, when he hears something from the body's direction.

The guard isn't dead yet! He lets out a pained yelp, which catches the attention of another guard nearby.

"What's that? Bob, cover me. I'll check it out."

You hear the rustle of approaching soldiers.

Back at the storage shacks, the other guards join in with their helmeted leader and concentrate fire on Summer.

Summer loses another hit point. You are now out of stress boxes. From now on when you are hit you will gain consequences.

Valerie is in the garage.

Also how long would hotwiring a vehicle take using "lore" as the skill doing so.

Hotwiring would take too long in this situation.

It might have a key, if you use a Fate point.

You don't have any, but I can give you one if you lose another HP to cold.

Murphy's law was having a bawl with him today. Why can't people die silently when you need them to. The Lad was going to pocket this black coat's gear, however the gods had denied him that and he was going to have to play their game. It was either fight or flight. And seeing how he was the one in a trench-coat armed with knives he didn't seem to like the former option. Although it would be ironic for him to literally bring knives to a gun fight, there were worse ways to die. Fudge, he looked around and saw the vehicle from which he had slipped from. Gah, guess he was going down in style anyway...

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

Okay, backup plan: Teddy does not sabotage the array and moves to do maintenance on the vehicles, Lad hides/evades enemies, the two meet up (finally) and take a vehicle with fuel to the western exterior of the compound.

Meanwhile Bittman, Summer and Valerie regroup in the bunker, hold off the first group of enemies and conveniently decide the garage door which leads somewhere to the west is their best chance at escape.

I expect things to go horribly wrong with this plan. Team, thoughts?

The BH comms will probably notice immediately that their connection is offline.

Whether that will result in you being immediately caught is another thing. After a delay, it approaches certainty. (Baggett knows you were tampering with the mast)

can Teddy RIG THE BASE TO EXPLODE??? if not I guess I'm going with the garage plan!

===Summer===

As Summer's perception returns to normal, she feels a sharp pain. Time to retreat! She wasn't sure Bittman would hear her over the gunfire and was too busy recalling where the traps were anyway. Hopefully he wasn't going to pull anymore heroic stunts.

After climbing down the ladder she shouts for Valerie, "Where are ya, Val?! We're gonna need your help real soon!"

Summer: 0/3/1, healthy, 1-4
Bittman: 2/4/3, healthy, 5-9

===BITTMAN===

The commando was freed from his foe's steely grip. He was surprised, then dismayed, left not with a sense of triumph, only blood and some bits of brain. However, a pained gasp coming from the shed forces him to set aside his pride.

Bittman glances at the grenade. Not knowing if he has enough time or if the enemy will let him throw, he kicks it away and hurries to the bunker.

Teddy leaves the lines alone and carefully returns the panel as it was. If addressed, it coolly states that the array does not appear to need work and that it will check the vehicles next.

Summer moves to the underground corridor.

Valerie has repositioned the vehicle. She is still in the garage.

Bittman sprints into the shack and descends underground. He hears an explosion behind him but doesn't stick around to assess the damage.

Teddy is now in the building and may continue to search for the gas if he so desires. He sees the two soldiers carrying a heavy machine gun towards the stairs leading to the roof.

Lad manages to commandeer the vehicle and starts driving it east around the central building. He hears some shouting and gunshots, as well as a distant explosion. You may continue to drive forward and into the northeast zone or you can steer right and skip straight into the east yard. You can see a gate in the east wall, with only a couple of soldiers guarding it. They're taking cover and pointing their guns at you.

I presume Teddy needs to exit the building to the north yard before going to the motor pool area. There must be more fuel there, unless it all happens to be in the vehicle Lad is driving.

If I worked out the turns right, the player characters move as follows:
Teddy: building interior, north yard, motor pool, get fuel, get vehicle
Bittman and Summer: corridor, garage, fight any pursuers
Valerie: garage, fight any pursuers
Lad: north yard, east yard, south yard, barracks, motor pool
Italics indicates current zone.

Or, in the interest of time, Lad can make a u-turn, run over Teddy (who becomes a hood ornament) and drives to the western exterior of the outpost. The bunker team can open the garage door shortly before their arrival. If we have the fuel we can take Rudolph; if not, everyone has to pile onto whatever vehicle Lad picked out.

The building interior and the central zone are separate zones. So you have to first exit the building which takes a turn.

But the central building and the motor pool are considered adjacent so there's no need for you to go to the north yard.

BTW if it isn't clear the fuel carried by Lad should be enough for an escape using Rudolph. Some extra fuel might get you farther but it's not an absolute requirement for "clearing the stage" so to speak.

You could also just escape using the truck if you don't care about taking Rudolph with you.

Considering Lad only has the negative rolls remaining, doing a lap of the compound would be hazardous. He might have to exit on his own in order not to take an extreme consequence and meet up with the party in the next scene. I imagine there are few routes out of the area.

Summer shields her eyes in the underground corridor, the hanging lights like day compared to outside. Or maybe she was fatigued by the day's events. She notices Bittman drop down the ladder and hears the grenade go off in the distance. They pause as the tunnel briefly shakes, then the commando addresses her, "Summer! Are you wounded?"
