Mafia 42: Harsh times in Mother Russia - Mafia Wins (K MVP)

Post by Linkman » Mon Mar 30, 2015 1:26 pm

To Moscow I came seeking fortune
But they’re making me work til I’m dead
The bourgeoisie have it so easy
The Tsar’s putting gold on his bread
The people of Moscow are hungry
But think what a feast there could be
If we could create a socialist state
That cared for the people like me.

"And so, comrades, the final word is that recovery for comrade Leninky is unlikely."

Fifteen people were reunited in a dimly lit, yet tremendously spacious hall. The walls and ceilings were decorated with beautiful detailed golden ornaments, though there were more than a few stains in them. Some small pieces of furniture punctuated the hall, covered by a thin, days-old layer of dust. The ambient was relaxed, though the nature of the room and its occupants gave an air of never being too carefree.

"It is a crucial time for the revolution, comrades. Without comrade Leninky's guidance, we are left to fend against the issues of our motherland for ourselves."

He paused and looked around his listeners. All of them young and lively, with neatly trimmed beards and mustaches, or sharp hairdos in case of the ladies. Each of these men and women, integral parts of the revolution in their own right, looked at Leon Treedsky imposing their own presence as he surveyed the room.

"There is famine in half our lands," he went on, "warring in the other half, and meanwhile in the west, capitalism is slowly cementing itself once again in Germany and Hungary. It is due to this that I must leave the Kremlin for some time."

"I will visit comrade Leninky to wish him well, and hear his advice if he is in the position to give it. And then, I will attempt to go to Budapest. In the mean time," he gazed piercingly to a few particular members of the audience, "I wish you, my comrades, to formulate a new plan to soothe our people's woes. You know, other than massacring them." He intentionally delayed his eyes at a single man for a split second. The entire audience perceived this fact.

"If I may, comrade Treedsky," began the man whom he was gazing at, "are you sure it is wise to embark on this journey? Right after we've lost the leadership of comrade Leninky?"

"But of course, Josef, if not when? It is already decided."

As Treedsky said this, Josef Svalin stood up and regarded the rest of the meeting. "I have word from our most trusted agents, that there are spies among us. Spies that pretend to bring down Bolchevism."

Time seemed to freeze at the Kremlin. Dark times laid ahead for the fifteen leaders of the revolution.

*** 2 ***

"I still don't know what you're so worked up about, Josef."

Treedsky was sitting cozily in his desk inside the Kremlin, signing some letters and pressing seals on them. Svalin was sitting opposite of him, watching him work while sipping a shot of vodka.

"The whole thing is rotten, Leon. I assure you of it."

"I think you're slightly paranoid, comrade. Who exactly are you suspecting?"

Svalin pulled some envelopes from his coat. He perused them some, and then said "let me show you. Bring him in, please."

They both waited a few moments. Treedsky continued to read, write and sign letters that looked important. Shortly thereafter, a young lad --one of the fifteen of the meeting before-- was brought into the room.

"Hello, comrades."

Treedsky continued to work without looking up. "Welcome, comrade, please take a seat." The lad took a seat next to Svalin, both of them facing Treedsky. "Can I persuade you to join us in some vodka?"

"Yes, of course, comrade."

The lad waited while the young leader stood up and poured him a nice shot for him, and refilled his own. He then raised his glass and said: "to the revolution!" Svalin and the young man echoed him in his cry, and the three men proceeded to drink.

Treedsky sat down again, and glanced tentatively at Svalin, who adjusted in his seat and addressed him.

"The reason why I brought our dear comrade here, Leon... I should say, Comrade Treedsky... if you will, would you please..."

"Yes, comrade Svalin?"

"...would you please tell me this man's name?"

Treedsky regarded the young man carefully for the first time. An awkward silence quickly followed. He turned slowly from the young man to Svalin, who was looking at him with a slightly bemused face, and back to the young man, who seemed slightly confused.

After a few seconds, he dropped pretenses. "Son... who, by the name of comrade Leninky, the fudge are you?"

The kid smiled in earnest. "I am Ladbauer. Pleased to meet you."

Treedsky looked at Svalin. He smiled back. Treedsky began to become livid.

"Son, what the fudge are you doing here? And why do you have a german surname?"

"I am German, ja. Wait, ist this not Wien?"

"No it is not fudge Wien. Why the fudge would we speak Russian in Austria? Svalin, what the fudge is going on?"

Ladbauer looked confused. "Er uses the word 'fudge' a lot. Ist there a problem, ja?"

"Apparently," Svalin began, "the kid simply found the building pretty and decided to come in. You know how it is, if you don't say much everybody assumes you're a top secret big dog and don't ask many questions."

"What the hell, Svalin," Treedsky stood up, "is wrong with us? Did nobody seriously notice this dude was off? Are we that incompetent?"

"Oh no! I noticed. But, you know, I had to check him out first."

The lad was getting more confused by the minute. "But, comrade Svalin, does dis mean we are not going to see the Wien philharmonic?"

"No, Ladbauer, you will not see the Wien philharmonic."

"fudge. fudge!" Treedsky was fuming at himself. "Send him to Siberia. Shoot him. Drown him. I don't care. Get him the fudge out of my sight."

Svalin made a hand motion and two big men came in and grabbed the lad by the shoulders. He began protesting. "Wait! You are communists, no? Perhaps I can work for you! Ich can be a spy in Germany or something! You know how hard it is to find German commies!"

"Out with him!" yelled Svalin.

"No! Wait," his cries lowered in volume as he was dragged away. "je parle francais aussi! Peut-être je can be spy in France! Je suis, tu es, il est..."

His voice was almost gone.

"Or Portugal! Or I can travel to Argentina! Por favor!"

Svalin stood up and shut the door, drowning out the last of Ladbauer's laments. Treedsky was looking out the window feeling thoroughly disappointed at the revolution.

"Comrade Treedsky?" Svalin asked tentatively.

"Yes... Josef."

"I don't think you should leave for Budapest."

"I won't. Not right now. Linka will have to wait."

"Oh and one more thing. Remember Dragorovitch?"

"Yes? Chief of Police?"

"We found him dead this morning."

"...fudge."

*** 3 ***

"How did they die?"

Two bodies were laying on the floor together, with one on top of the other making a grim, crooked cross. The bottom man, tall and bulky, was wearing a policeman's uniform. The second body, smaller and frailer, was stark naked.

"It appears they both took a bit out of a... poisoned apple."

Josef Svalin stood next to the bodies, holding the apple with his bare hands. The apple had been bitten twice, on opposite sides, and both sides had a black stain and some traces of foam near the bite marks.

The normally impeccable posture of comrade Treedsky faltered. He looked at his companion half-heartedly.

"...so they were lovers, then?"

"It seems to be a fair guess, yes," continued Svalin. "There always were some rumors about Satelov on this matter. Something about playing with his students using anaesthetics. But Dragorovitch had a clean record."

"Cover it up. We cannot let the people know our respectable chief of police was a deviant." As he said this, Treedsky's lip trembled a bit--as if the idea of Dragorovitch's deviations did not disgust him all that much.

"Of course, comrade. We will need, however, a new ministry of health and a new chief of police."

"I will assume the ministry temporarily. You, Josef, will add chief of police to your duties."

"I figured as much, and already began, comrade Treedsky."

All of a sudden a spark jolted between the two men. Svalin looked at Treedsky defiantly, for the first time challenging him on who deserved to lead the revolution in comrade Leninky's absence. He looked back, slightly ajar at his comrade's newfound intentions.

Svalin did not relent. "And by that, I mean I already have our suspect. Commander Hawkenko of the air force."

"Hang on. The Night Hawk?"

"Oh yes. My lookouts saw him leaving this house last night, slightly before Dragorovitch arrived. He must've known these two were meeting here and intended to sabotage their night of... ah, how did you put it, dear comrade? Deviance." He walked some steps around the dismal pair of corpses. "Further, he must've spied on them enough times to know they were going to play with the apple."

Treedsky was clenching his fists. "This is worrisome, Josef. You were right. There are spies in the revolution's heart!"

"Indeed, comrade," said Svalin, while putting his arm around Treedsky. "But worry not. These two... deviants were not worthy of the revolution."

"Perhaps, you are right, Josef." The young leader looked up, from the pitiful bodies of his former comrades, and into Svalin's eyes. "I want to interrogate the Night Hawk."

"You will have to travel, then. Siberia is a long way."

The fists of Leon Treedsky were clenched, ever so tightly.

Lynch nobody till we get a clue, you idiotskis!
MysteriousLad be like:
Oh hello, I am MysteriousLad.
Do you know when I was an OP player? When I wasn't in WWN and massclaims were legit good? Yea I miss the days I could force town to claim, rout out the mafia, and win the game for free day 3. Sometimes without being killed!
Senpai HPD notices me everyday when I'm town, do no scum play, and still get lynched day 1.
Anyway, it's time to go and ask people to claim and go lynch those who don't with my high-skill OP role.
I am MysteriousLad.

Miller should claim, if nobody counter claims he's basically proved town and if mafia counter-claim we'll have one dead by day 2 guaranteed.

Cop should also fudge claim in-thread, doctor should protect him then without any hesitation. It's the main breaking strategy in the history of mafia, mafia can't kill the cop until the doc's dead while the cop relays all results.
WWN still hasn't learned to make setups non-breakable.
If it isn't clear I'm not the doc, cop or miller: I'm a VT and I'm going to fight for the town.

So, inspection is heavily disrupted. From what I know from earlier games, the mafia sometimes can sometimes bend a game the town deems ''broken'' in their favour by abusing the godfather/miller. A miller claim might actually work, but if you are going to babble about ''confirmed innocents'' again you can count on a virtual slap in the face. This game can't be broken completely because of the godfather/as long we haven't got the miller figured out.

Godfather can easily hide out being pro-town in the open until lategame. Since inspector is of no use, you''ll have to sort out the guilty one from the pile of ''pretty darn town people''. If said pile has grown large(which it has done in a lot of the more gimmicky games in the past few months) this can cause the mafia to make a comeback during lynch misfires.

At least Dragonite learns from past mistakes.

But yeah, what he said. You can't rely on the inspector. Asking for cop claim without the cop having any results yet is also unnecessarily risky (of course there's that night kill chance, but I reckon it's better to hide).

Claiming miller is sort of useful, though. I can see that work, though I wouldn't rely on the info being correct or have him/her function as 'confirmed' town.

Actually, new plan:
Miller claims today, if mafia counter claims (or mafia claim and miller CC's) then we'll lynch one off behaviour. If we hit mafia: great, if not then we lynch mafia Day 2 guaranteed. If the miller is alive by Night 1 the doctor should protect him, having a "cleared" town is helpful.
By then the cop should have 1 result, he should claim D2. The mafia now have the choice of killing the near confirmed town miller or hunting for the doctor. The cop will of cause be protected.
Once again if someone CC's we follow the same procedure as with the miller.
The cop can now put all results in-thread allowing us to occasionaly confirm mafia (miller is found or dead by then so false guilty's aren't possible) and we'll hunt the godfather with logic.

Now, before people yell "bad" or "faulty" explain why.

G'day

I also thought of that plan, but I didn't state because I wanted to see if it would happen ''naturally''. I doubt the mafia is going to be that stupid though. However.. if the miller claims now, and nobody else, then it's probably the real deal and a townie(only flaw in this plan is that the real miller isn't paying attention, resulting in us trusting a mafia.)

So, roll call for the miller. Whee.

We can now take Kir as "cleared".
IF YOU ARE A MILLER AND THEREFORE KNOW HE FAKE-CLAIMED COUNTER CLAIM NOW.
We'll then lynch kir, if he actually flips miller we'll lynch the fake claimed miller. Who will be mafia, as there's no town motivation at fake claiming miller here.
And lets face it, loosing a miller is better than loosing a cop. I really doubt mafia would suicide to kill a "cleared" town.
For all these reasons I expect that Kir's telling us the truth and that mafia likely won't fake claim. Those are my thoughts, I may be wrong.

Doctor can have some fun tonight, they could protect Kir as he's likely town so mafia want him dead. However he could target someone else knowing that the mafia will target someone else expecting the doc to protect Kir. But maybe the mafia will actually target Kir expecting that.
