Bounty River - Max - 22 days - 999

Despite using Max, I still built a mass of rockets, not sure what else to do. They ended up not being that useful in the end, but oh well.

There shouldn't be any "unusual cases" from here on out.

Bounty River - Sami - 18 days - 999 pts

Sami's transport bonus and capture rate was the reason I finished this map that fast. There was some AI abuse involved. I managed to get the Battleship to move away without destroying my loaded APC, something it only did once every three or four retries.

Wow. I never thought it was possible for me to beat Terra Maw <_<;. Power was really tricky to get. Luckily, I saved around day 12 and managed to get the perfect combination after a couple shots.

It gave a whole new meaning to the expression "APC/Lander abuse" <_<.

Mial's Hope - Max - 10 days - 999 pts

I only replayed this map to finalize my walkthrough. Here it is.

Mial’s Hope Guide
Recommended CO: Anybody
Opponent: Eagle
Speed Requirement: 14 days
Points: 999pt S-rank
Days: 9-11

Overview: Send a loaded T-copter and Fighter to Eagle’s HQ while he sends his entire army towards your HQ. Tanks and Anti-Air units will provide the power score, and if necessary, build an APC or two to distract Eagle’s forces.

Kanbei cannot follow this walkthrough exactly, but he has the same idea. He deploys his Fighter one day later. As usual, Max makes this map a piece of cake.

You need to destroy three units for the power score, and you can only lose two units to maintain technique.

Day 1:

- Build T-copter in E airport.
- Build Infantry in NE and SE base.

Day 2:

- Move northeast Infantry 3E and begin capturing neutral city.
- Load Infantry into T-copter and move T-copter 3E 3S.

Day 3:

- Finish capturing neutral city.
- Move T-copter 3E 3S.
- Build Fighter in E airport.

Day 4:

- Move Infantry 3E.
- Move T-copter 6E.
- Move Fighter 7E 2S.
- Build Tank in NE base.

Day 5:

- Save here.
- Move Infantry 1E and begin capturing neutral city.
- Move Fighter 5E 4S.
- Move T-copter as far east and south as possible without entering enemy attack range.
- Move Tank 4E.
- Build Anti-Air in NE base.

At this point, Eagle’s movement is too random for a specific D2D walkthrough.

When Eagle’s HQ does not have any units adjacent to it, you may drop the Infantry at that point. This usually happens on Day 8. First, check the surrounding area. Do not move the T-copter or drop the Infantry into enemy attack range. It will draw the attention of Eagle’s forces, ruining the capture. If an Anti-Air is in the area, you may block the Anti-Air if it heads towards the Infantry and as a last resort, sacrifice your T-copter as bait.

Retreat your HQ forces when Eagle moves to attack. If an attack is inevitable, build an APC or two to distract Eagle’s forces. You may lose up to two units, but you will need to build Infantry to make the technique score, and you will have a smaller margin of error if you used your T-copter as bait.

Do NOT attack Eagle’s forces until the final day. This gives more time for Eagle to bring three units into your attack range, and prevents Eagle from rebuilding his units at his HQ.

Arrgh. I got lucky and Sonja built her first rocket on the north side, which made for an easier dropoff - but I'm *still* struggling to get the capture in time.

The key problem is that Sonja keeps sending something back to her HQ, this can be really tough to identify early.

I will be *so* glad once this map is done.

Edit: Finally got things to go my way.

Bounty River - Olaf - 19 days - 999

As I said, Sonja built her first rocket on the north side, so I was able to drop off an APC and send it to her HQ early. The hard part was getting lucky enough that there would only be one unit near her HQ - a tank took the long way around, but by the time it got close enough, I could use the APC to block it from reaching the HQ. I used Mid Tanks at the dropoff point and the usual mass of rockets to get Power, it also helped that Sonja dropped off two infantry.

It was still a pain on the whole, but I'd say the map is a lot more manageable if you get *really* lucky and Sonja builds that first rocket on the north side.

Bounty River - Andy - 21 days - 999

Again, I got lucky and Sonja built her first rocket in the north. (This happens on Day 3.) I didn't save as many days as with Olaf, because Sonja had a tank on the path to the HQ, but it ended up being relatively easy to clear overall. I had to do some real wrangling to get Power, but managed it in the end.

Only Nell and Eagle now.

Nell has cleared the War Room.

Bounty River - Nell - 19 days - 999

I think I've figured out the trick to this map. First, get that rocket built on the north side on Day 3 and don't let Sonja send anything else (*maybe* an artillery) to the dropoff point. Second, do NOT, under ANY circumstances, destroy any of Sonja's infantry until the HQ capture is secure. If she has enough infantry, her build order is *much* more favorable and you're not going to see anything built at the HQ.

Also, try to avoid triggering Enhanced Vision if there's an infantry that can attack your APC and block its path - the extra attack from the CO power seems to cause Sonja to do this. You can't afford any delay if a tank on the north side heads for the HQ - if you're in position on Day 17, the tank will move to a spot where the APC can prevent it from reaching the HQ next turn. At this point, go for Power, using whatever means necessary.

I may try to get a full walkthrough out of this later. For now, though, I'll just do it with Eagle to finish the map off.

I ended up with 62 in the end, myself. Offhand, I'd guess you have somewhere around double that.

Edit - I count 106 on the list. I recall I beat your score for Andy on Mial's Hope, so that's 107; not sure what other scores you have not on the list offhand, though.

So, you personally have more than half the scores on the list.

Another edit - For the curious, there are only 33 scores on the list that *don't* have either me or DTaeKim listed.

Translucent Air

Post by Translucent Air » Sat Dec 22, 2007 12:49 pm

It was quite nice seeing that in action. You even seemed the have the deployments memorized, since I didn't notice the bomber until it was moved. A brilliant job!

And congrats and kudos to who participated in the feat, especially DTaeKim and Dragon Fogel, completing it in an amazing time. This went by much quicker than its respective counterparts in AW2 and AW:DS. A challenge might be to see if completion of the 'War Room' of Advance Wars: Days of Ruin can be completed even quicker once everyone's ready, assuming there still is a comparative counterpart. (Although, it'll likely be harder due to both the possibility of unfamiliar maps and the all new COs and game mechanics.)

Nonetheless, it's definitely nice seeing some of the ol' boys still active and pushing out novel strategies.

P.S. Dragon Fogel has kept me abreast on side, initially presenting me with the strategy for the above spectacular accomplish.

Well, the video looks smoother than the actual run, since I'd interrupt the recording when I made a savestate and then load the state, start recording again, and repeat until I got the necessary luck.

Now that I think about it, I *do* have a pretty good idea of the usual deployment order towards the end, though - at least, if everything's gone right up to that point.

Day 8, it's almost always an artillery from the ceded base and an anti-air from the north-central base. In fact, it's best if this happens, since the artillery is easier to destroy right away, especially as Olaf usually has his CO power active on this turn. Day 9, he builds the bomber. Day 10, anti-air and artillery - he *may* build either one from the base behind the mountain pass, which you don't want. Also, I think the artillery's been replaced by a tank on occasion, probably if I destroy his first tank. Olaf's last turn is almost always a rocket and whatever else he can afford - in this case, it was a mech because he suicided his infantry, but he didn't have the funds to make anything else. If he hadn't done that, it would have been an artillery.

Send two loaded Landers: one with a Md. Tank and APC and one with two Infantry. They should both drop by day 12. You want to capture the properties on the main island and hold off destroying anything until the final day if possible. You also have to build a Cruiser, I think on Day 7 or 8 to fend off Drake's sub. It's preferable if you kill the thing.

That was a lucky run. First, Drake built a battleship right around when I dropped off and moved everything away from his HQ. Then, when I dropped off, he didn't build anything near his HQ. Then, when I began capturing the HQ... the battleship *moved* rather than firing on the infantry.

Terra Maw Guide
Recommended CO: Anybody but Kanbei
Opponent: Sonja
Speed Requirement: 19 days
Points: 999pt S-rank
Days: 18-19

Overview: Without a doubt, Terra Maw is one of the two most difficult maps in Advance Wars 1 War Room to finish perfectly. You must capture the port as soon as possible, build a Sub and Lander out of the port, and load the Lander with a loaded APC and Anti-Air while defending your HQ from Sonja’s Battleships and air units. The power and technique scores are easily obtained if you keep a constant vigilance throughout the map.

I highly suggest reading the guidelines before embarking on this strategy.

Kanbei cannot follow this strategy exactly because of his increased deployment costs, but he has the same idea. He deploys his APC one day later and therefore has a much tighter time limit. If you want an easier time, use someone else.

In a rare twist, Drake is the best CO for this map because of his naval movement bonus. Sami is not a bad choice as usual.

Day 1:

- Build Infantry in all bases.

Day 2:

- Move northwestern Infantry 3N.
- Move northeastern Infantry 3E.
- Move southeastern Infantry 3E.
- Move southwestern Infantry 3N.
- Build APC in NW base.
- Build Infantry in NE base.

Day 3:

- Begin capturing neutral properties with nearby Infantry.
- Move APC 3N.
- Move remaining Infantry 3N.
- Build Infantry in both northern bases.

Day 4:

- Finish capturing neutral properties. This base will be called the mountain base from this point forward.
- Move northern Infantry 1N 2W.
- Move northeastern Infantry 3N.
- Load remaining Infantry into APC, move APC 2N 3E, and drop Infantry north.
- Build Anti-Air in NE base.

Day 5:

- Move mountain base Infantry 2W 1N.
- Move northwestern Infantry 1W 1N and begin capturing neutral city.
- Load Infantry into APC, move APC 5N 1E, and drop Infantry north.

Day 8:

- Save here.
- Finish capturing neutral properties.
- Destroy enemy HQ Infantry if necessary.
- You must have enough funds to build a Sub on Day 9.

On Day 9, a Sub must be built from the port. This clears the way to Sonja’s HQ because she loves blocking the port with Landers.

On Day 10, a Lander must be built from the port for obvious reasons.

On the HQ front, constantly build an APC from the mountain base in order to distract the enemy Battleship if present. The map is a bit easier if it moves away from the HQ.

On the southern front, distract the B-copter with a copious stream of Infantry. This should be little problem. If you surround it, you can attack it to help build your technique score by joining units.

On the northern front, build Tanks and Artillery in anticipation of the power score while capturing the properties with your available Infantry. Do not make an attempt to capture the properties north and east of the port.

Maneuver your Sub and Lander towards the shore near the HQ. Load the Lander with a loaded APC and Anti-Air and then make your way towards the northern port. The loaded APC is obvious, but the loaded Anti-Air is a precaution. Sonja has a habit of building an air unit near her HQ, and the Anti-Air is used to maim/destroy whatever is built. The southern port should be considered if Sonja is blocking access to the northern port with a considerable force.

NEVER DESTROY a single unit of Sonja’s unless it is a Bomber since that unit poses a high threat. This prevents the chances of Sonja building a replacement air unit if you get near her HQ. However, if you SHOULD get near the HQ, surround or wound the Bomber to 2 HP or less instead.

Anti-Air units on the southern front and the Tanks/Artillery on the northern front should be sufficient to secure the power score. Aim to destroy at least five units.

Even I'm not crazy enough to try to rout Olaf in 5 days on It's War! AC.

Heck, I don't think anyone's routed in 5 days on the *NC* version.

And that's just the beginning of why the answer to that question is "no".
