Wait, what is Crap Wars??

CRAP WARS is a KICK TO YOUR FACE; it is CUSTOM WARS taken to its LOGICAL EXPLOSION

FEATURES

ALL of your FAVORITE and NOT FAVORITE Advance Wars units with NEW UNNEEDED and INTRUSIVE CHANGEs

are you tired of unloading an infantry and having to wait until next turn to capture the other guy's base?
with ACTION UNLOADING you wait no more!

sick of wailing on the other guy only to watch in horror as he deploys VICTORY HYPER BLAST for your efforts?
with inverted charge rates, you get to use SAMURAI FURY STRIKE before he does!

an EXPRESSIVE number of COs, somewhere around 70 to be exact

ALL the features of CUSTOM WARS beta 27
hot seat play
snail mode play

various match settings INCLUDING unit bans

also has MULTIPLE tile sets of VARYING QUALITY

CW CLASSIC
Image

TROPICAL FLAVOR

and the latest greatest addition

the bog

This sounds stupid.

CRAP WARS DARES TO BE STUPID

do you dare?

The second post is tacky, and "joculary" is not a word.

And what does it even *mean* for a CO to be put up for rent?

Rent-a-CO! intrepid CO creators can submit their babies to possibly be included in this thing
because I'm easy to impress, you only have to fulfill 2 easy criteria
1. it has to be kinda cool
2. I can program it

The damage chart is absolutely massive. By the by, Eagle has a 3/7 bar.

We could make it even more massive

Kiwi, dor units, y/n?

How about zones and making the dor co's actually work like dor co's? I could combine my ahc zone code with the bits and pieces from black dawn that actually work and add them to the joke.

Veterancy levels too.

Yes, it's possible. Maybe not the most super easy thing but I believe I understand the CW engine well enough by now that I could do it. Especially if someone is actually interested in seeing it happen.

It would be greatly constructive towards the cause if you could collect all the data and put them in a centralised form somewhere.

what do you mean by all the data?

like just a list of all the AW1/AW2/AWDS/AWDoR game mechanics?

Re: Crap Wars, an Advance Wars Jocularity

Post by Narts » Sun Mar 14, 2010 7:47 pm

Yes. And the stats for all the CO's (their different versions) and the terrains and the damage tables and formulas.

And there are also some question marks, like how far we want to go in mashing everything from every game together? Just the CO's? Do we implement every version of every terrain and unit as well? Like, DS forests and DoR forests as their own tiles? How do we handle the ginormous unit selection? Are all units available to all CO's or do we divide so that DoR CO's can only build the DoR versions of the units and AW1 CO's build AW1 units and so on? What happens when a unit attacks a unit that has no obvious equivalent in its game, like, piperunner vs anti-tank? I guess we just come up with some number for that.

Hmm doing it for crap wars seemed easier

I'd think the AWDoR land & air unit roster with a cheaper Neotank (with lower defense however) is fine for all CO's if a good campaign is made.

The Navy... well, that definately needs fixing for obvious reasons.

while that looks like quite a bit in reality we really have only 10 match ups to consider, 4 being ditto match ups. (aw1 vs aw1, aw1 vs aw2, etc)

i'll whip something up shortly on how to handle each

right uh

there's a huge-ass bug where server games fail to end turn, continually saving until exited to the main menu, not sure what's causing it; affects all CRAP WARS releases back to at least 05.12.09

AHC, AHCU, BD, beta 27 apparently unaffected

Does it happen randomly or always or are there special circumstances that trigger it?

Re: Crap Wars, an Advance Wars Jocularity

Post by kiwi » Wed Mar 17, 2010 8:04 am

happened to Sven, happened to some test games I set up

first I thought maybe it was having a fit since I kicked out unused COs but since it goes back to last year that's probably not it; dicking around with perfectMove D2D caused problems even offline which is why I axed it from Sturm, so if it's something in one of the 70 CO files, well, lol

this might take a while to pin down, fortunately it's probably safe to rule out simple number tweaks; 'course MAYBE the roster itself is too much for this dinosaur of an engine to handle but since no one knows how the server bits work that's anyone's guess

also I'm not done checking old releases so yeah

Re: Crap Wars, an Advance Wars Jocularity

As I understand it, the server bits work approximately like this:

the client sends the save file
the server downloads and stores it
the client requests the save file and the server sends it

The file could be a CW save file or kosheh's zipped loli hentai folder as far as the server is concerned.

It's just a dumb file swapper and I highly doubt the problem is serverside as simplicity of this sort tends to be quite robust.

One of the CCO's? That's a good guess as any, especially since some of them contain quite retardedly complex code (Adam comes to mind as one of the worst offenders). Though I'm not sure they should have any effect unless they've actually been selected for the match.

Yeah, the server's ridiculously simple in that way.

The only caveat is that I believe I've set it up to wipe files that haven't been touched in somewhere between 1 and 3 months.

BEHOLD, I have VANQUISHED the SERVER BUG

it also took out the damage chart, which was apparently the problem

you know what else has been VANQUISHED? CARRIERS
removed the buggy takeoff ability, replaced with ACTION UNLOAD
I mean even if takeoff worked, it'd be redundant yeah?
still haven't cracked carrier building, use at your own risk
