Advance Wars 2 - Ember Hack - Version 1.8

Post by RadioShadow »

Advance Wars 2 – Ember Hack – Version 1.8

To celebrate my hacks first anniversary, I have released an update and for the first time in an Advance Wars 2 hack contains brand new playable maps and more:

- Ember now has a new sprite so the old ugly one has gone.
- Fixed the Campaign Bug. You should be able to play the Campaign now.
- Edited the title screen.
- New Music! You will hear some familiar music being played from AW1.
- Ember's theme should play correctly in the 'Sound Test'.
- Snifit has a new battle and menu sprite
- New Maps! 16 Verse Maps, 2 Pre-Deployed Maps and one map from Advance Wars Dual Strike.

Note: Ember was created by Tronn Bonne, not me. He just let me use his Custom CO in my hack.

For more information on how to apply the IPS Patch and to view more screenshots, check out the Advance Wars 2 - Ember Hack website. I plan to improve the websites layout in the future.

Wow, great work!
I'm also trying to implement a CO... Is there anything better than Unlz-GBA for exporting and reinserting the sprites?

Well I haven't heard of any besides Unlz-GBA but it still does the job well.

I will be making a guide on how to add the CO images to AW2 rom and I planning to start it soon.

If it's a Midi File, then it's possible (but not guaranteed..Sappy is funny like that).

If it's an MP3, then no.

Its possible but it may sound funny like Xen said. Also the midi will not loop.

Oh, wow. That's really nice. I especially like what you did to Sonja in the extras. And Grit looks much better too.

I will just like to mention that I am looking for testers. All you have to do is play the hack and reply some comments on the hack. I just want to make sure the hack is working 100%. You name may even appear in the credits.

Anyway, version 1.1 is released since yesterday I fixed Drake's COP animation and edited Ember's battle sprite.

Yeah, I tested it, although I couldn't find an easy map to beat since I apply all patches to one rom, so Xen's War Room mad things difficult, moreso than I could be bothered.

Banzo, doing that means diffrent sort of data will now be mucked up. Appling Xen's war room hack will mean Ember's stats will have been changed back to Hawke's.

In other words only applie that hack to a clean rom. Don't applie any other patches to the rom or over a modified rom.

People seem to more interested of this patch at AWN and Custom Wars than here :? . I might ask Xen and see if this can be moved to the CCO AW2 or Design Section.

Anyway, another update has been added to the patch. More major update than the last one IPS since now Ember Profile mentions she does not get the standard +10 defence during powers.

Enjoy and thanks to all the people who have tried out the patch :D

After exams, I might add it to the AW Hall of Fame page, and announce it on the site news...

I been holding onto my shorts for a long time Xen. When can I let go?

Ember hack has finally been updated and this time I included 5 NEW War Room Maps. Check them out, one includes the Laser and Mini Black Cannons :D.

Ember's graphic name has been changed (there was an extra black line that shouldn't have been there and Xen's 1.10 balanced changes have been applied.

Also tidyed up the topic and removed some screenshots.

Enjoy playing the hack and expect more maps to appear in the next update.

Version 1.75 – It’s my birthday so you get a special update. ^.^

- Added in 2 war room maps
- Edited Ember’s profile slightly (mainly page 4)
- Edited Adder’s page 4 description
- Added in Strums AW1 sprite from Xenesis hack. Sniffit returns! I done this for a reason but I’m not saying why at this time. Razz
- All the English words now use the British spelling.
- Strums victory quote has been changed to suit his personality.

Enjoy playing the hack. For the next releease I plan start adding in a bran new Campagin and release the translation patches.

But for now, enjoy what you got.

Hello.

Good job Radioshadow. :)

If you do plan to add in a new campain then that would be awesome.

PS: Sorry for my bad English. I been studying English at school for one year.

RadioShadow: Thanks. :D I just tided up the English a bit. Hope you don't mind.

It is looking very good RS. Do you plan on using Troll’s sprite for a future update of the Ember patch? I am fine with you doing so since I think Troll did a marvelous job.

Problem

Post by Guest »

The mod looks really good, but i am having a problem with it. I applied the cleaner patch, which got rid of the flowers and stuff, and then I applied the ember_hack patch, and then I went to play the campaign. Ember came up in place of Hawke and every thing was good until I beat the first mission. After that the game would show how many points I had earned and my mission score, take me back to the main campaign map, crash and then reset. Any suggestions.

^ Your the second person to notice that bug.

When I was making the Ember patch 1.75, I seemed to have buggered something up with the Campaign. I think its something to do with Nell's sentence.

Anyway, I tried to fix the bug and in the end got very cross. :x I don't know how to get rid of it. :(

Luckily, the bug wasn't in the previous IPS patch, 1.7 thank goodness. :P So I have been working on transferring the stuff from the latest patch to 1.7 and then continue working on it.

Other than that, everything is working fine in the Ember Hack 1.75, just don't play the Campaign. When I next update the hack, the bug will have gone.

Thanks for the help RadioShadow. Is there any place that I could get the 1.7 patch? And not to rush you, but do you know when the next patch will be released?

I'll see if I can upload 1.7 to Romhacking Net. So you will have to wait a little while.

You can however download 1.6 from http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/152/

As for when to release, some when at the end of February or beginning of March. :D

There you go. Ember Hack 1.7 Enjoy!

Note: This is not an update, just the previous patch which doesn't contain the Campaign Bug.

Version 1.6 works. Its proberly the rom your using.

Try downloading 1.75 again. The web hoster has its moments of not letting the download work. >_<
