War Room High Scores - AW1 Version.

Post by Dragon Fogel » Wed Nov 07, 2007 4:25 am

I'm currently working on putting together a text file to keep track of scores. Feel free to put your 999-point scores here in the meantime. I'll edit in a link to the list when it's done - looking for time limits at the moment, I know I saw a post on AWN somewhere with all of them.

Naturally, using the Design Maps glitch or any other form of cheating isn't allowed.

Using an emulator for savestates is fine, in case there's any doubt on that matter.

EDIT: Here's the score list: http://www.celestialbridge.net/fogel/aw ... scores.txt

Scores so far are mine, baeksdoosan's on AWRevival, and ones listed in kikutaro's FAQ. Time limits are from a post made by Noyce on AWN.

To start with, here are my 999 point scores so far.

Spann Island - Sami - 7 days
Moji Island - Sami - 9 days
Duo Falls - Sami - 8 days
Sole Harbor - Sami - 9 days
Land's End - Sami - 12 days
Ridge Island - Sami - 7 days
Bounty River - Grit - 22 days
Twin Isle - Sami - 8 days
Dire Range - Sami - 10 days
Egg Islands - Drake - 12 days
Ring Islands - Drake - 15 days
Last Mission - Eagle - 13 days

Late edit: Amazingly enough, we did it! And in only a little over a month, no less. Congratulations, everyone!

Later edit: Because I'm too lazy to keep the scorelist updated now that the project is complete, ALAKTORN is doing that now. For the most recent scores, look here:

I have little doubt Last Mission can be done with all COs. This is AW1, and we can probably AI abuse that map like we did in AW2. That looks like a good start.

Second, I have a feeling we're going to abuse APCs like no one's business.

I agree on Last Mission. Egg Islands and Ring Islands should be doable, too, though Power will take some work.

Bounty River should also be doable - the AI sometimes will have *nothing* guarding the stretch between the south shore and the HQ. Getting full Power without Grit is going to be the hardest part.

And yes, I expect heavy APC abuse too. Probably a lot of experimentation on emulator, also.

Incidentally, the Dire Range time limit had a question mark next to it in the post I took it from. I know from attempting it with Max a while back that the actual time limit is around there, but I think it may be a bit lower than the 14 listed there - either 12 or 13, not sure which.

For that matter, confirmation on *any* of those time limits would be good.

If you need the time limits, I could easily get them ;)

If scores are valid with an emulator, I think I could try getting some :)

Hey, this got stickied. That's a first for me, I think. Neat. Anyways, let's see if we can get this started.

If you're playing on emulator, I suggest starting on Land's End, Ridge Island, or Stamp Islands. Those are the ones with the tightest limits, and savestates will be incredibly valuable in experimenting with different plans.

For Land's End in particular, the strategy to start messing with is taking the HQ by land. For a non-Sami CO, if you built an APC and infantry on Day 1, moved efficiently, and had no enemy interference whatsoever, you'd capture the HQ on Day 9. That means you have three days of leeway. The chief issue will be getting through the north mountain pass.

Offhand, I don't have any thoughts on Ridge Island or Stamp Islands, though.

Ok, here are the first 5 maps time limit:

Code: Select all

Map TL +1 day (pts)

Spann Island 10 945
Moji Island 14 990
Duo Falls 13 990
Sole Harbor 18 995
Pivot Isle 15 990

I'll get the rest probably tomorrow...

Thanks, Moji Island was a day short. Hopefully other errors will also turn out to give us more time. =P

Looking at that chart, you *have* to get full Speed to even S-Rank Spann Island. That's interesting to know.

In that case, he probably put a 4 in place of an 8 by mistake. Not that it makes a huge difference when we're going for 999.

Edit - My suggestion for unlocking is to unlock everyone but Drake on Normal, then Drake on Advance. That gives you everyone in two playthroughs, it's what I did on cart.

You can also try using the design maps glitch or other cheats for unlocking purposes, just keep them out of the War Room itself. Or, of course, you can get a savestate from somebody.

Why not just get one of those Crappy SaveStates from GameFAQs? You can fill up all the records with your own stuff afterwards.

Or maybe you prefer getting all the stuff yourself, I dunno.

I used Codebreaker codes for that :P

Maybe that's the reason why I got only 945 points on Spann Island. I use Eagle, change my money & activate my CO power unlimited times until I block all the bases with units, then I let the CPU built an infantry & kill it.

I'll try not blocking the bases (but still using cheats :P) & see if I get a different score on each map...

Mmm, I though Sturm was unlockable in this game, but it seems he can't normally play on the War Room. Though I changed the CO with codes & was possible to play with him with no problems...

So my question is, will you also add it to the list? I guess no, since you would need to use cheats, but if you're also interested then I could provide the code (produces no side effects)

BTW, I have to look for my list of records to start adding them, although I only had like 4 or 5 perfect records. Well, I do remember doing Spann Island on 10 days with Max (He's my favorite CO in this game :))

I'm only keeping track of scores for COs you can use without cheats.

Might be an amusing continuation once we feel like we've run out of doable scores, though. Out of curiosity, are there cheats for both 130/80 and 80/120 Sturm, or just the latter?

Mmm, well I think so, as there are 2 values that give you Sturm. Here's the code for the 1st CO & the values it can take:

0201ABB9 XX

00 Nell
01 Andy
02 Max
03 Olaf
04 Sami
05 Grit
06 Kanbei
07 Sonja
08 Eagle
09 Drake
0A Sturm
0B Sturm

I think that 0A gives the strong one (130/80) while 0B gives the weak one (80/120). The first deals 8 damage with the CO power while the later deals 4...

Last Mission - Grit - 14 days - 999 pts
Last Mission - Kanbei - 14 days - 999 pts

Here's my guide. Let me know if there is anything wrong.

Last Mission Guide
Recommended CO: Anybody
Opponents: Sami, Eagle
Speed Requirement: 30 days
Points: 999pt S-rank
Days: 13+

Overview: You can capture Eagle’s HQ without any problems in six days with the sacrifice of two unloaded T-copters. Use your funds from Eagle’s HQ capture to build a powerful air force. Kanbei cannot follow the walkthrough exactly, but he does have his own walkthrough. Honestly, if you are aiming for an easy completion, use Eagle, though Sami can finish the map faster. Since AW1 does not have an in-depth enemy unit count, before capturing Eagle’s HQ, you must stop and count Eagle’s units for the purpose of the power score.

Day 1:

- Build Infantry in NW and SW base.
- Build T-copter in S airport.

Kanbei Day 1:

- Build Infantry in all bases.

Day 2:

- Move N Infantry 3W and begin capturing neutral base.
- Load Infantry into T-copter and move T-copter 5E.
- Build Infantry in NW and NE base.
- Build T-copter in S airport.

Kanbei Day 2:

- Begin capturing neutral base with NW Infantry.
- Begin capturing neutral cities with remaining Infantry.
- Build Infantry in NW and SW base.
- Build T-copter in S airport.

Day 3:

- Finish capturing neutral base.
- Being capturing neutral cities with both N Infantry.
- Move unloaded T-copter 6E.
- Move loaded T-copter 5S 1E.
- Build Infantry in SW and SE base.
- Build T-copter in S airport.

Kanbei Day 3:

- Finish capturing all neutral properties.
- Begin capturing neutral city with NW Infantry.
- Load Infantry into T-copter and move T-copter 5E.
- Build T-copter in S airport.

Day 4:

- Finish capturing neutral cities.
- Begin capturing neutral cities with both S Infantry.
- Move unloaded T-copter 6E.
- Move loaded T-copter 6E and drop Infantry E.
- Build Anti-Air in NE base.

Kanbei Day 4:

- Finish capturing neutral city.
- Begin capturing neutral cities with both E Infantry units.
- Move loaded T-copter 6E.
- Move unloaded T-copter 3S 2E.
- Build T-copter in S base.

Day 5:

- Finish capturing neutral cities.
- Move T-copter 1S.
- Begin capturing Eagle’s HQ with Infantry.
- Destroy B-copter with Anti-Air from the south.
- Attack enemy capturing Infantry with Infantry from the W and E.
- Build Infantry in all bases.

Kanbei Day 5:

- Retreat wounded T-copter if it survived.
- Move loaded T-copter 5S 1E and drop Infantry E.
- Move unloaded T-copter 3S.
- Build Infantry in all bases.

Day 6:

- Save here. Count the amount of Eagle’s units, which should be around 12, including the destroyed B-copter.
- Finish capturing Eagle’s HQ.

Kanbei Day 6:

- Retreat wounded T-copter if it survived to a safe location. Remember, Eagle has a Fighter to the north.
- Move T-copter 1S.
- Begin capturing Eagle’s HQ.
- Unit movement is at your discretion.
- Build Fighter in N airport.

Kanbei Day 7:

- Save here. Count the amount of Eagle’s units, which should be around 14, including the destroyed B-copter.
- Finish capturing Eagle’s HQ.

You can afford to be riskier with Sami’s HQ capture if enemy soldier units are nearby. The AI does not seem to attack your solider units if they are positioned on superior terrain unless a COP has been used. It’s better to be safe than sorry, so wound any nearby soldier units.

If Sami builds Artillery adjacent to her HQ, you can cripple the Artillery to 2 HP or less. The Artillery will retreat to nearby HQ cities, but it will not attack your capturing Infantry.

As mentioned earlier, AW1 does not have an in-depth unit screen detailing the total number of enemy units built. You will have to avoid destroying Sami’s units until you are certain you can achieve the power score on that day. This is far easier than it sounds. If you can cripple her units to 2 HP or less, the AI will retreat said unit and NOT attack with the injured unit until it is completely healed.

You forgot to finish that sentence.

I'll try the strategy out with Nell. Looks like this will be the first map we finish up.

Edit: Okay, the strategy works fine. Eagle's battle copter happened not to move into anti-air range, but that only made things easier. I was able to attack the invading infantry with anti-air and infantry and start capturing that city myself.

I still need to finish off Sami, shouldn't take too long.

I was just messing around with Kanbei on Land's End.

Doesn't look good for him on there. The stat boosts are of little help, while the increased costs *really* limit his ability to expand quickly.

Not that it's going to be a cakewalk for any *other* non-Sami COs, but it'll be especially tough for him.

kikutaro's opening strategy works decently. From there, it's a lot of reloading until the AI movement favors a capture of Olaf's HQ without anything threatening your Infantry.

I expect finishing maps will generally be a *very* quick process once we actually have strategies, since there are only 10 COs to do.

Kanbei is going to actually have issues this time, though, since he doesn't have Samurai Spirit to make up for his lack of units.

Spann Island - Olaf - 8 days - 999 pts

All right, I modified kikutaro's opening strategy to accommodate the inferior transport movement of the other COs. My strategy revolves around the use of APCs to distract Olaf's Tank while I move in with a loaded APC and Tank. Some luck is required, as Olaf managed to capture the enemy HQ without any interference from the enemy Recon, which did not attack at all. I do not believe Kanbei can follow the strategy at all.

Spann Island - Nell - 10 days - 999 points

...I just noticed you've been putting the score as 300 on yours for a while. Understandable, though, after so many scores on AW2 and AWDS.

Spann Island - Grit - 10 days - 999 pts

I begged for the AI to ignore my Infantry on higher terrain and baited them with Infantry on plains or roads. After some save state abuse and different movements to change the AI, I managed to pull it off in 10 days. It was rough going.

Spann Island - Kanbei - 9 days - 999 pts

I built solely Infantry for the first two days, and then only Tanks afterwards. Kanbei's extra defense helped a lot.
